This is the first time I have heard of adding sealant to tubs. Do you add it before or after experiencing a flat.

First time posting.

I've being thinking of giving tubular a tried. I am currently riding conti clinchers gp4000s and the gatorskin. I only do club rides and daily usage. I've notice that in tubular, conti. has the sprinter and the gatorskin sprinter. Does the sprinter roll nicer/softer feel than the gatorskin sprinter but it is less puncture resistance?

I am also interested to learn about the sealant, before, after or both?

Thanks

Bustedknuckle's shop *is* pretty sweet, having visited it for the first time myself this week while in Boulder... :)

I searched the web for this bike shop but could not find it - could you PM me to clarify name and location.
Thanks.

Like you I was curious and swapped to tubs last Xmas and have been using the Conti Sprinter Gatorskin and Vittoria Pave's (separate wheelsets). Pre-stretch the tubs then add the sealant prior to fitting. The Conti's were a nightmare to fit being extremely tight. So much so that I'm convinced that I pinch flatted them whilst fitting because on my second ride (weird, I know) I got a flat and sealant started oozing from the edge of the rim tape/rim. After a few minutes the sealant did it's job and everything quietened down and stopped spitting at me. Pumped up the tyre, rode home and it's been fine ever since! The Pave's (f24 r27) were miles easier to fit and have been a dream on the roads and farm tracks of East Anglia which are pretty much Flandrian without the cobbles. I carry a can of Caffe Latex with me, just in case.

I use Conti Sprinters and have never had any troubles with fitting them to the rim. Sprinters do come in a 26" tyre for Wheel Chair Athletes. I actually mangaed to get one of thes on to a standard road wheel with a lot of difficulty. You didn't have a 26" tyre by any chance did you.

Put Stans in prior to mounting. Been doing it three years and it works great. I ride Vittoria myself but have used it in Conti, Challenge and Zipp for customers

Thanks guys for all the responses.

I think i will go with the gatorskin first since i can somewhat compare it to my clincher.

I've also read about Vittoria Pit Stop but, the review has being mixed for it. I am glad to know about Caffe Latte and Stans and especially about using before mounting and for repairs.

When i do end up making the move over to tubular and set out for my first ride, i will carry 4 key items....
1. Sealant, if that doesn't work
2. Spare tire, if that doesn't work
3. Cell phone to call the wonderful wife for a ride home
4. Ear plugs so that i don't have to hear her laugh at how much trouble i've gotten myself into :)

1.Sealant before you ride, no need to carry.
2. Yes, preglued
3.TYep, good idea on any ride, tubie or clincher
4.Tell her to HTFU.
