Thought I'd start a TUE-specific thread seeing as this topic crops up again and again.

IMO this is the biggest Piddle take out there. It would seem it's legalised doping.

Borrowed from RobbieCanuck: It is clear the percentage of TUEs for conditions of asthma appear to far outstrip the incidence of asthma in the general public, exercise induced or not. Pound says in his book,

I found this: http://www.theguardian.com/society/2014/dec/28/asthma-elite-athletes-study-swimmers-cyclist-eid

Now I don't doubt that there are some genuine TUEs out there, but why can so few people see through the BS that athletes are, as a cross section of society, statistically rather afflicted. It doesn't stop at Asthma either.

Posting first just to say that this thread could save a lot of frustration if people looked up what actually needs a TUE before they post. Thyroid hormones do not. Many asthma medications do not (clenbuterol does, salbutemol has a threshold limit, chart below). Cortico steroids are okay OOC but not IC.

Good resource here: http://globaldro.com/

Asthma medication info here from http://www.usada.org/substances/prohibited-list/athlete-guide/ :

Nice to see asthma is back. Everyone was asthmatic in early nineties, then with full *** EPO era suddenly the peloton was magically cured, as there were much more marginal gains available. Now back to the lower octane fuel and traditional badzillas, maybe we'll see "pot belge" again (I know, not gonna happen, too much new stuff around, and genetic doping around the corner).

Found this, courtesy of Will 10 from the Froome thread:

This was quite an enlightening tweet from Michael Hutchinson who rode the World ITT for Ireland last season

Worth saying again that the dope control guys at the worlds last year were amazed I didn't have any therapeutic use exemptions. (TUEs)

Tanni Grey-Thompson ‏@Tanni_GT
@Doctor_Hutch is that because so many cyclists have them ??

@Tanni_GT That would be what you'd suspect. It backs up the rumours of large numbers of riders holding multiple TUEs.

Jack Thurston ‏@thebikeshow
@Doctor_Hutch Should all TUEs be public? Would transparency help ? Or is it an unjustified invasion of privacy?

@thebikeshow imagine TUEs are covered by medical confidentiality. Suspect that even knowing the total number in the peloton wd be striking.

No, you had better slag off the athletes who are lying about their fictional medical conditions.
