the spanish tv was a joke, the camera men were terrible, the motorbike riders were badly positioned, very very amateur.

commentators, i like Kelly, but he is the top of a very very bad bunch.

I don't mind the basic education on Universal. It's important to continue to introduce new folks to the sport and how else will they learn? I'm new myself and I appreciate all the info they provide. I think it's well balanced with Gogo's input as well - he provides an invaluable look at life in the trenches.

The only troubles at Universal Sports were the quality of the video feeds. Some of you have mentioned that there were HD feeds from Eurosport...why doesn't Universal Sports get that feed?

I can't stand Sean Kelly. He likes to make snarky comments about Vino which ****es me off.

I watched on Universal Sports - didn't any one else? I love their coverage. It's Steve Schlanger and Todd Gogulski. Gogo provides the "insider look" at the peloton and Steve gets all excited over the racers. They do not play favorites, which I love. No fawning over the Schlecks, etc. I never hear them say anything negative about one rider or another, either.

There are a lot of annoying ads on Universal Sports and of course they rely on the Spanish feed, which was pretty poor. Not sure why they didn't use more helicopter shots of scenery during the dull moments and why there were so many shots of the crowd or the road at a funny angle, for example. But, overall - Universal Sports does a fantastic job, IMO. We also get the channel for free with our antenna. :)
Where do you get universal sports free with your antenna? Lucky you.

Universal Sports here. It's an over the air free channel so can be brought in with simple rabbit ears. It's also provided by my cable company. If I was recording I'd use cable, if watching live used over the air since it was a better picture. Go figure?

What I like best about the coverage is the Lack of bias for any person, team, nationality. They simply call the race! How novel and what a difference from P&P with their Lance/British/English speaker unending biases....

Steve gets on my nerves sometimes but Go Go is great, plus he was a darned decent rider also. Better then the palmares of Sherwin or Roll for sure.

The only thing I really dislike is the lack of stage results and standings in other competitions. For whatever reason they never show the daily result, just the GC standings and sign off.

I have to come to Cycling News to get all the info I want. Well I'd come here anyway :)

I'll give them a 'B-' for the Vuelta coverage :)

Eurosport started coverage too late in the race, but I enjoyed Sean Kelly. Web streaming was only choice in my market (San Diego, USA).

I have Universal Sports. It was alright, my main gripe was with video quality. But it was wonderful not to have to deal with the Lanceavan and what they considered "race commentary"...everyone else has pretty much said what there is to say about Universal.

Universal is part of a basic cable package via Comcast on the West Coast. Broadcast quality from Spain is challenged as everyone noted but you get it 3 times a day.

Carols - ITA. They simply call the race - that's it in a nutshell. It's so refreshing!

Oldman - that's another huge plus of Universal 3x a day - especially great on weekends, but even on weekdays it's nice to have a choice of when to watch.

I should get a commission from Universal Sports. Seriously, I love them. They also do a bang-up job covering downhill skiing, FWIW.
