The articles in the Velonews, or the should I say the Boulder/Colorado Cycling News, on this subject are the most biased and one sided articles on the subject so far written, Good journalism is about presenting a detailed analysis of the facts on both sides of the argument, and in this type of article remaing neutral.

These articles, the one today and the one last week are the most toe-curdling, JV promotion pieces you can find. In summary for anyone who does not want to read them, they basically say whatever JV does is always right, he is the greatest manager, the most inspirational leader the world of cycling has ever known.

The worst part of the articles is that it appears the Colorado press are on a camapaign to do anything to discredit Hushovd. Why is it oK for Tyler to use Veulta for training but not Hushovd? I wonder who could be behind that. You only have to look at JVs tweets, and see he is doing everything to discredit Hushovd.

So if someone has posted the link to Vaughters Local rag, in order to provide a balanced article, I would suggest reading this and see what Norwegian journaists thought of the way Vaughters treated Thor when he won the yellow jersey.

http://www.vg.no/sport/sykkel/artikkel.php?artid=10097528 (need google translator or similar) Yes it has a pro Norway slant, but it presents the other side of the argument Velonews ignored.

On the postive side while many of the readers who comment on the Velonews articles are taken in by it, there are a good few who see through what the author is doing - I won't call witer a journalist because that would be paying him a compliment.

I just thought the title of the article was a good pun: "Vaughters drops the Hammer". I mean, come on, that's pretty funny.

The article itself was like an editorial

I'm fairly sure it's a case of misspelling?

Lemon curd - bean curd - toe curd? Eww!

I took it to be a classic malapropism rather than a misspelling, as in "I need to get this lamp electrocuted", when "electrified" is the intended meaning.

more to the point, the VN article presents very good arguments (and I agree) that JV probably knows more about running a cycling franchise than anyone posting on this forum... AND I am unanimous in this.

Too bad that...

Too bad that BMC/Thor couldn't/wouldn't suppress news of his signing until after the rosters for the Vuelta had been put forward, thereby allowing Hushovd to weasel his way into the race (for training) at the expense of a rider loyal to Garmin.

That would have been an amazing example of cynical manipulation that might've awed even Lance or Hinault.

While it's certainly Vaughters' prerogative to disrespect the World Champion and the sport by denying the fans the opportunity to see Thor in action in another GT, it's also Thor's right to talk sh^t on JV and bellyache about how Mickey Mouse his team is in some respects. And he'd be right to some degree, as Vaughters is hardly any more loyal or appreciative of his riders than they are of him - it's purely a "what-can-you-do-for-me-now?" scenario there.
