UCI statement on the UCI Gravel World Championships (women's live coverage)

L’Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) has been informed by the Local Organising Committee of the 2023 UCI Gravel World Championships in Veneto (Italy) that today's Women Elite race will not be broadcasted live due to no TV production.

The UCI regrets this decision and invites all fans to follow the race live on social media. Fans will also be able to follow the race via the riders' lap times by clicking here. A summary of the race will be posted online as soon as possible, and numerous highlights of the competition will be broadcasted during the Men Elite race on Sunday.

As of the next edition of the UCI Gravel World Championships, UCI will make it mandatory for event organisers to provide TV production for both the Men Elite and the Women Elite races.
Shame on you UCI.

Shame on you UCI.
If this was 1970 or even1990, 2000 I could see where they may have issues with scrambling to get a production together.. but even a delayed, a limited broadcast is easily done using Facebook.. I am able to see a pretty close live broadcast of a Wednesday night training crit in a semi sleepy Mexican town and a woman and her husband do it all.. w their phones.. Come on UCI maybe get a MySpace page going..

Of course it's a gimmick, and the road and CX specialists riding roughshod over the 'gravel specialists', who by and large have been made up of riders who couldn't quite stick in the other disciplines, kind of shows that. But Kasia has a rainbow jersey now so all is well.
The issue is the UCI's version of Gravel, is a bit different to the Gravel that the specialists usually race on, This was another roadie's Gravel race, which didn't appear to have too much technicality......

Thats because this UCI *** isnt a real gravel race.
Not saying they wouldn't win anyway but real gravel is the big races in the US like unbound that are 200 miles or more and not road rides with some walking paths

It looks like something between road racing and cyclocross. So obviously riders who excel at both will fare well in gravel racing too. Perhaps in the USA there are courses more suited to the pure specialists of this specific discipline.
