Surprising see Lidl - Trek so low even with Ayuso and Pedersen injuries. And Alpecin is going to improve, but half of their point are from Van der Poel alone, they need improve the squad.

Some takeways so far:
  • Bahrain and Jayco among the best of the rest after low finishes in the yearly rankings in recent years, especially the latter will be delighted to have this much of a buffer already.
  • Uno-X doing very well for a team that only got promoted because of the Lotto-Intermarché merger.
  • Alpecin should rocket up the rankings like they always do once the spring classics really get going. However, more than ever they are completely dependent on Van der Poel and Philipsen and if anything career-changing happens to either they could find trouble in this cycle.
  • Four PCTs in the current top-19 means we will have a proper fight for the wildcards in the next two seasons and likely a competitive promotion/relegation battle in the final year of this cycle. This could spell major trouble for Lotto - if we exclude Picnic who are doomed and Alpecin and Lidl who are unlikely to feature in the relegation battle, they are only at about two-thirds of the next-lowest WT team so far. Poor start for them.
  • Groupama really need to add either a reliable GC outlet or a better sprinter. Only Grégoire in the rolling top-100 of the individual rankings is a sign that all is not well.
  • Picnic could single-handedly cause the UCI to add a minimum sporting requirement to keep the three-year license if they keep this up.

There's 17.5 teams worthy of WT right now. The current WT teams bar PicNic (obv) and Lotto (just simply not enough quality and with the rumors it seems like it's only going to get worse) + Tudor. The half is for Pinarello. They are getting better, but they are still very dependent on Pidcock.

Groupama really need to add either a reliable GC outlet or a better sprinter. Only Grégoire in the rolling top-100 of the individual rankings is a sign that all is not well.

They simply are one of the bottom teams budget wise. But honestly are doing better than expected, thanks to Gregoire ofc. Wasting money on Martin probably tho

Well, they are a team that has improved year after year.

2023: 6569
2024: 8938
2025: 10816

So the reason it was even close for the 23-25 spots for them is because they were a bit behind after the first year. Now they are starting the next cycle from the same position of strength they ended the last cycle at and with Kron finding form and the recruitment of for example Traeen, and with THJ going better than ever they should not really have much trouble maintaining or increasing their points even further.

They completely focused on farming points in 2025 and less so this year, though.

As of 30.03

Who has had a great start?
1. Jayco seems like the clear winner of the first quarter of this season. Schmid (1200+) has already scored more in 3 months than he's done in any season before. Also Vendrame have been very successful signing so far.
2. Bahrain could be a team that might come in trouble if the money dries up, but they have started really well.
3. Astana continues where they were last season. Should not be a relegation contender this cycle.
4. Uno-X have scored very well and equalled last season start which was seen as very strong. On a good way to stay up.

In the middle:
- Lotto-Intermarche have collected good points, but there are still a lot of question marks.
- NSN have had some good results, but not a great start.
- All the big PRT teams (Tudor, Pinarello, Cofidis and Unibet) have had a good start with good results and many points on the board. Especially Tudor and Pinarello should have clear ambitions about reaching the top 18. Tudor needs to get Hirschi and Alaphilippe to score big and Pinarello is very thin behind Pidcock.

Whos had a bad start?
1. Picnic. They've been horrible. Bittner the only glimmer of hope so far.
2. FDJ. Gregoire is class, but behind him it's not been great. Where are Gaudu, Martin and Madouas? If this continues they might be in trouble.
3. Movistar. Not been a great start, but there are many good races for them to come.
4. Lidl. A horrible start, partly because of the injuries of Pedersen and Ayoso. Anyway, they will not be in a relegation battle.

Looking at the Pro teams, Tudor and Pinarello good; Unibet continue their rise; the French teams in line with expectations.

Of the smaller ones, Burgos have been farming but the other Spanish teams doing OK. Bardiani have lost five of their six biggest points scorers over the past three seasons so I am expecting quite a bad season from them, while Polti have actually done quite well despite losing Double and Piganzoli since 2024. MBH Bank have the roster of a CT team (plus Verre and Fancellu) so their struggles aren't surprising.

Big swings are indeed possible.
EF went from 20th before TA and PN to 10th just after them.
Now in 16th after lackluster cobbled classics and a ho hum catalunya.
