Not only did he finish, he stood in his wet kit for about 10 minutes doing interviews in the mixed zone, all with a slightly sore foot, although he already thinks it's not serious and he will be fine for Friday.

Valter too did all his media duties and even declined an ambulance, preferring to discreetly ask for a quick medical check instead of a trip to hospital. He tweeted to say he too was OK.

Impressed by both men and their professionalism and resilience.

I think this is the perfect year for Campenaerts. He has the best mix of form age and experience

Well, there was speculation that he might purposely have gone straight ahead where Gareeva did yesterday. Essentially deciding that a DNF would be better than a bad result.

Conditions today were absolutely awful. Glad that there weren't serious crashes. Dygert is a phenomenon and Bjerg again showing is great time trial ability. Next year I want to see him with the elites.

Regarding tomorrow I think the podium will be decided between Dennis, Remco, Roglic and Campanaerts. I still back Dennis to win. He isn't having a good year but on a BMC he was so much better than everyone last year and I think the course suits him well. Evenepoel will likely come second, the course is very long but he is so good that I don't think it will make much of a difference. Roglic could be third, in his best shape I think he could reach gold but he will suffer a bit from the Vuelta and I wouldn't be surprised if he reaches bronze. Asgreen is the biggest outsider but podium will be difficult. The Italians will likely suffer in this course. Watch out to Nelson Oliveira too he always do very well in the Worlds.

Don't forget that Dennis may well be riding for a contract here, and will probably be the freshest of everyone except possibly Evenepoel and some others on a lighter race program.

Dennis claims he's hitting the same wattages he did last year in preparation and is aiming for podium as a minimum. If true, it's between him and Campenaerts for the win, but I'd give Campenaerts the slight edge after his hour record training, as long as he's fresh enough.

Whenever I hear someone (in any sport) say “I’m hitting the same watts/percents/scores/weights/distances I did when I won that big thing that one time,” what I hear is “I haven’t actually made any progress since then, it’s all I can do to keep up.”

That, and switching back to last year’s bike, makes me think Dennis is in last-year-mode.

I will just throw in Bevin as a dark horse. Good season so far and quite some Top10 finishes in ITT. Strong showing at the Vuelta, too.

Also great to see the Kuwaiti girls riding at UCI Worlds! Great accomplishment!

I am just going to throw some outsiders in.

Kangert will make a top 6 i feel.

Jungels is also a could bet- he has looked good the past monthes- will like the terrain and length.

Lutsenko- Don't really know why i believe in him , as he isn't that good a time trialler these days. but the man looks inform and starts early. I have a feeling he is gonna make a fantastic one.


Politt- No reason- i just love politt :)

Last-year Dennis was a whole heap better than this-year Dennis.
