What is the rule for number of participants is it based on rankings or is it a set amount for each country?

It is based on the rankings in the Nation’s Cup and the UCI Continental Circuits. You can see how many starters each country has here on page 10.

I think I will go Phinney for the TT and then a little off beat for the road race...I think Tom Dumoulin may take it...probably not, but fun to pick a dark horse none the less...

Can you tell why he got this nickname? Do you think colombia can win on this course? Maybe a bit to easy, I think.

Haha, Tom Dumoulin is more likely to win the TT, actually. If Phinney doesn't take too much time on him on the flats ;)

the colombians don't make too much chance cuz of easy parcours. they will probably harden the race like they did last year. that parcours suited them much better though but they didn't ride european style they just attacked on every climb and the europeans couldn't follow. in colombia you attack in every clibm and riders will bridge up to you if they can. but no in europe it's all tactics

I know pito could be slang for penis in some hispanic countries, I hope that is not the case in Colombia :D

Hopefully I'll be able to watch this race live, don't know much about U23 racers nowadays but I'll keep an eye on Gomew :)

for colombian proportions yes. the top riders make good money. others make average like in europe as well. many pt gregario's make 35-50.000 euros a year the colombian equivalent of that would be made there.

Henao makes for instance now 150.000 euros, which for colombia is huge money. in some extreme cases riders like rujano make way more then that. rujano made almost 1 million dollar when he went to zulia. I suppose the real big hole is between top riders and rest. teams like zulia are famous for paying lots of salary(they paid serpa, buenahora, castelblanco more than half million a year when they were there), also in brazil and mexico they make relatively good money
