Phinney must be clear favourite for the time trial. Oliviera and Quaade is my other medaltips.

For the road race I think Kump is the nr. 1 favourite. Mathews and Degenkolb are my other medalfavourites. The route is propably to easy for the columbians to dominate.

Riders like Daniel Diaz, Yonathan Monsalve, Sonny Colbrelli and Juan Jose Lobato Del Valle should also be able to do well by making a selection and having fast finishes.

the u23 road race is the same as the elite's race but with a few less laps, right? if it is then its not as easy as many said and highly doubt that the sprinters will be on the front cus the u23 race is not as controled as the elite race IMO

no I'm more thinking for monsalve or daniel diaz, if it becomes a sprint for south america. the colombians are only with 4 now oyola has crashed out and don't know how well they are in shape. much political game again, only riders from antioquia in colombia u23 squad

If it comes to a bunch gallop at the end, then watch out for M.Mathews that kid can sprint...

Can you tell why he got this nickname? Do you think colombia can win on this course? Maybe a bit to easy, I think.

His father’s nickname is "Pito Loco" and when Javier was born his father’s friends passed him that nickname as well; Javier doesn’t like it but has learned to carry it with patience.

For the U/23 men’s road race, I agree with MADRAZO’S name dropping of favorites; although I would like to add Ramunas Navardauskas to the inner circle of favorites, he is strong as an ox, and in Bidasoa he took Daniel Diaz two times in decimated group sprints, so he knows his way to the finish line as well.

Let's talk serious - In 24 hours we have a start ITT U23

It's Taylor Phinney's to lose this one, but is that still the case, after Tony Martin's comments about the course: [http://CN-martin-ITT-course-hard]

So with last years winner Jack Bobridge although U23 not there, cause Pro-Tour members are not allowed, it should be a piece of cake for minny Phinney, 'but' let's see who we got else that might get in the mix - From A to D primed top down, and one * slip of the tongue not worthy.

A) Alex Dowsett, Luke Durbridge

B) Nelson Oliveira, Rasmus Quaade, Marcel Kittel

C) Geoffroy Soupe, Tom Dumoulin, Andrew Talansky, Andrei Krasilnikau

D) Blaz Jarc, Jesus Herrada, Evgeny Kovalev, Gianluca Leonardi

*) Michal Kwiatkowski (WC-U17-2008)

Starter-List: [http://worlds-ITT-Geelong/U23-starter-list]

Start Wednesday September 29: 10:00 AM => [http://worldclock/city/Geelong]

Don't see Phinney winning. It is a tough course with not much flat stuff for him to power along. Expect a guy who can climb well to win.

I am not counting him out as he has a chance but a climber who can power along the flater parts will win.

I can also only agree about Navardauskas. He has been great this season, and like you say he is also pretty fast.

I had actually thought of him also but saw him in the elite startlist on cyclingstartlists, so thought he rode that instead, but if racing he is definetly a certain top 10. Also I think Siarhei Papok who has been very strong this season will definetly finish top 10, but he propably lacks a little speed to win it. And then I guess also the french riders Tony Gallopin and Romain Hardy will be serious candidates as well. It will definetly be an exiting race.

Personally I think the Anglo-Saxons have the TT sewn up. Between Phinney, Dowsett, Durbridge and Talansky I see the eventual winner. Maybe Rasmus Quaade or Marcel Kittel could pull off an upset.... But I doubt it. I'll be rooting for dark-horse Tom Dumoulin, obv.

Is Durbridge riding? I thought he was concentrating on the track and wouldn't ride it this year?

From a GB team point of view, Alex Dowsett has a great chance of podium place and maybe victory. I think he and British Cycling are very confident.

For the road race, GB's chances lie with Luke Rowe. He specialises in sprints from a smallish group so might have a chance. This year he's won the GP Sportivi di Poggiana and came fifth in U23 Tour of Flanders (beating John Degnkolb) plus some top 10's at L'Avenir. I think this circuit will suit him.

However, if on form, I can't see anyone beating Michael Mathews.
