UCI World Championships 2024 - Men's U-23 ITT (Sept. 23)

Page 6 - Get up to date with the latest news, scores & standings from the Cycling News Community.
Campenaerts also said that it didn't change a lot compared to u23 riders, so what you're saying isn't correct either. But the wind did a lot and Campenaerts didn't know about the difference then.
And then Arensman said that he had to be extremely cautious in the corners. I mean, I think anyone who was watching that TT knows that you cannot just compare it to the dry U23 circuit. Look at how Affini extremely carefully approaches this 90 degree corner at 1:00. That does something to your average speed.

Quintana came in 46th btw., which is probably better than the other Quintana would do. At least I'll have a Quintana to root for in the future though once the other Quintana retires.

Huge performance from Romeo, I knew he was a talented climber but not this strong as a time trialist.

Söderqvist with a very good performance and Christen impressive too especially given that he is more of a classics rider.
It´s the other way around, Ivan was always a rider with great potential as a time trialist and possible classic rider with some abbilty to climb, but not a climber at all and that was one of the reasons of him being quite striking for the Spanish cycling community, for not being the typical prospect around here.

By the way, I'm a little surprised by the general disbelief, maybe it's because as a Spaniard they've been selling me the hype with this rider since since he was a cadet, to me and everyone vey interested in cycling in fact.

I would say that in spanish social cycling media we are all surprised by his last part like everyone, but I think that the vast majority of us saw him today with chances for the silver-bronze medal on a super day and a top 5 on a normal one. After all, last year he was fourth in the European at this time of the year and this season he has been in the top 10 in the UAE Tour (WT) time trial, seventh in Burgos, Top 10 in La Mayenne and top 15 in Belgium (all .Pro ITT), and it is assumed that he prefers longer time trials and harder like this one, in fact his national TT champ was a big disappointment.

If I understand correctly, he said that he has been in the area for 14 days with his father preparing this time trial, and that he was deliberately saving everything for the last sector.
