One more time, this organization most oblivious to the fate of mankind will provide it's stakeholders a place to schmooze. The schmuks who are entitled up the majority of the seats couldn't careless about any of the stuff spoken; They'd rather make a more efficient use of the prime real estate being wasted on the East Side of the Big Apple.
The big 5 will of course take advantage of the forum in order to advance their political agendas, oftentimes divorced from the needs and aspirations of mankind.
UN honcho Ban Ki-Moon will endorse anything coming from the western powers with his demagogia' and petulancia'.
In the end, cabbies will be jammed on gridlocks all week long; waitresses and escorts will make windfall profits; bars and restaurants will provide cocktail parties and 5 course dinners all paid for the world's taxpayers, stranded and stepped upon by the same politicians who swear to fix the problems they've created and to meet at the next conclave.
New Yorkers! awaken from your deep slumber and kick those folks out and far

This will go straight into 'World Politics' when Alpe sees it.

As for the UN, it may suck in many ways, but it's all that we have, and it's unlikely to either disappear, or be reformed in our lifetimes.

Please remember that there's two UN's
There's the UN that hold yearly meetings with world leaders in which they all agree to decide nothing
But there's also the UN of the agencies, with UNICEF, ILO, WFP, UNDP,... doing a tremendously important job in developing countries.

^that's a good point.

the most important un-affiliated body must be added to the list - the international atomic energy (iaea).

for example, the iaea is the only forum where a resolution singling out israeli nuclear weapons - as opposed to the usual bad boys like iran and n.korea - can stand a reasonable chance for being passed.

another un expression - the general assembly - is critically essential in balancing out the absolute dominance (usually arrogantly self-serving) of the west-controlled institutions in everything - from economics, to finance to trade to legal bodies.

as to the un security council and it's permanent members, i agree, it is a hopelessly outdated body breeding nothing but clusterfook and paralysis. as far as i understand, there are ongoing intense consultation aiming at bringing new members like india, germany, japan etc. i hope germany and india take their well deserved seats as the word's geopolitical reality has long demanded.

otherwise, one retired fbi officer told me, the un office in ny is basically a spy den and a corruption hub.

A somebody works for who pays him. Who pays Unicef? Unicef is mainly sponsored by Amway. Famous speech by Sir Roger Moore, whom I am a fan of as an actor and will always be...

Who founded Amway: Rich DeVos, one of the richest people in America, huge donor to the Republican Party and other libertarian causes, owner of the Orlando Magic, Amway paid for the name Amway Arena: http://articles.orlandosentinel.com...0313_1_new-arena-magic-executives-amway-arena

UNICEF looks like a moral guarantor for the West multinational companies.

Generally, a UN agency takes about 40% of his funds from member countries, used for general operating, with an extra 60% of extra-budgetary funding, often tied to specific projects. This funding can come from governments (it often does), but also from private companies, foundations (Bill gates foundation sponsor a lot of UN projects).

I don't know any specifics for unicef, but you can surely find it on their website.
Edit: for UNICEF it's rather a 25/75 division, mostly due to UNICEF being a very visible organization, and thus easier attracting funds (for example disasters in Philippines or Syria). But a vast majority of their fund (both core an extrabudgetary does come from governments)

quintessential perverse absurdity, not a perverse irony, it transcends that, a perverse absurdity, POTUS Obama, addressing the UN General Assembly full of his motherhood statements for domestic consumption and the stenographer's legacy...
