Thanks dB,

I was hoping you would comment here, and had a follow up question - knowing you would know the answer.

Does the arbitration hearing have to be public, or is this only at the athlete's (e.g. Floyd) request?

I think you have answered that (and this was my recollection based upon Floyd), but just wanted to be clear.

Dave.

Athlete's discretion. I had expected the alphabets to get rid of that option, but they have not done so. Since they see the Landis case as a clear win, I guess they see no harm.

I have a question.

If (and I assume it will be) the arbitration is private ... can USADA release transcripts, give interviews, release their testimony in part or full, make statements etc after the hearing?

or is it full secrecy?

[updated]

There would only definately be the finding of the panel, unless Armstrong releases stuff.

With a rules change, agencies can comment (give interviews) as the case progresses, hence statements from Tygart about the Armstrong case. They might take that as license to release transcripts, or may not.

Should Armstrong release stuff, there will be question whether it is complete, as Armstrong has a history of highly selective transparency.

USADA might take incompleteness as something that should be corrected by their own complete or selective release.

Landis, at least as far as I was able to determine, was pretty complete with his release of information presented at the hearing, and because it was public, USADA put most stuff up at least for a while.

If anything later history has shown, sending or saying anything to Landis is likely to result in it becoming public one way or another.

highly selective transparency.

genius dichotomy could only be a product of public strategies, bizarre voice, and trustbut.

This blog reports from outside cycling, at the IOC level of interest.

The relevant part for Armstrong scam followers: It should be well understood, too, that the Armstrong matter has seized the attention of the Olympic movement at the highest levels. Maybe Hein and Pat are finally catching a little heat?

The rest is pretty similar to what's been said for a long time about the biopassport system. It's designed to catch no one.

NY Times article on George, his loyalty and how conflicted he likely feels:

Armstrong Teammate Seen as Reluctant but Reliable Witness

“I’d do anything for the guy; he’s like a brother to me,” Hincapie said in 2009, during a break Armstrong had taken from the sport. Armstrong also has called Hincapie his “best bro in the peloton,” a guy to whom he spoke at least every other day.

Now, though, Hincapie — the only rider mentioned by name on the dedication pages of both of Armstrong’s main books — says they haven’t spoken “in a while.”

I've long said that the higher dollar interests of the USOC and IOC would not allow their franchise to be diminished by bad PR. Add the real $2bil investment by General Electric, parent company of NBC and the necessity to please the public perception; you have a direct equation to real advertising dollars. Lance may be the proper sacrifice at the proper time to highlight Olympic diligence. What politician wants to step in front of that train?

Eventually even Roth outlived his usefullness and was assassinated as he stepped off a plane.

I'm not sure if it is "enhanced", I don't know. It's a peculiar facial expression though. I've always wanted to know the context of the shot. What exactly prompted that expression. If you look at his eyes in the colour photo, he seems fearful.

Those intrepid Fraudbyte brothers are reporting that LiveStrong is now lobbying members of Congress to express concerns about the "fairness" the USADA investigation. http://fraudbytes.blogspot.com/2012/07/lance-armstrong-investigation.html

A spokesman for U.S. Rep. José Serrano (D., N.Y.), who sits on the House Appropriations Committee, said his office was visited by a registered lobbyist working on behalf of the foundation, which works to increase awareness of cancer. The lobbyist's main purpose, the spokesman said, was to talk about the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, which enforces rules about performance-enhancing drugs in sports, and which has charged Mr. Armstrong and five others associated with his former cycling team with operating a doping conspiracy in an effort to dominate the Tour de France. ...Mr. Serrano's spokesman said the Livestrong lobbyist laid out his concerns about the fairness of USADA's process.

Why am I not surprised?
