This is not simply returning a positive sample. The charges are use, possession, trafficking, administration to others, assisting, encouraging, aiding, abetting, covering up, other complicity, and aggravating circumstances spanning from prior to 1996 to 2011. In other words, the biggest doping scandal in sporting history...

This is frustrating... did you even read to previous posts?

The most interesting things to me are in regards to the 2006/2007 period and the 2009/2010 period. It's well documented what happened in 1999 untill 2005, but it will be really interesting to see how the doping program continued (with succes, look at Contador in 2007) in the years after Armstrong's first retirement, and how they picked it up in 2009 and 2010. I'd love to see the blood values of those years (although I agree with above speculation that they probably weren't enough for a conviction by themselves).

It will be interesting to see how they handle the statute of limitations. Maybe they MUST prove that Lance doped during his comback in order to be able to prosecute him for everything before 2005? Maybe they NEED to prove that it was ongoing? Any thoughts on this?

Memo to Fan Boys at livestrong and velomuse

Unlike the U.S. Attorney, USADA's job is to protect clean sport rather than enforce specific criminal laws

Isn't `trafficking' in banned drugs a potential breach of criminal law? In which case if the five lose this one, they could end up being prosecuted.

So if info about 2007 and 2008 comes out, Contador could end up serving another ban. Because the infringement happend before he was notified of his 2010 positive I do not it would qualify for a lifetime ban, but he could get another two years.

Of course looking at how fast things proceed in Spain, he would probably be retired before the case reached a conclusion.

Well Lance was dumb enough to post them on his website, until people like Ashendon said "what the hell?" Then he promptly took them down.

Pure hubris.

And a pretty big divorce settlement.

Funny thing.... the only race he won was Nevada City. That, inandofitself equals epic failure.

not sure you get the implications... he would lose EVERYTHING from 1998 onwards

I have a strong suspicion that we are going to see Lance made a liar, once again. Awhile back he said he was done fighting.

But the USADA charges, if sustained, would result in the utter obliteration of his "legacy," and his inability to promote himself in Man Love magazines as a triathlete icon.

Is Lance going to unleash his very expensive lawyers? Is he going to go "full ***" and blow millions?

I bet that he fights. Every single one of his TdFs is in "jeopardy," and I bet he didn't expect that! The show will be tremendous! If he fights . . .

Methinks Novitzky did not interview the 'Old Posties' all by himself! He maybe had some assistance? Or did the federales share evidence with USADA?

I reckon Lance's only hope is that USADA can't make fraudulent concealment stick. Only problem with that is that he forces USADA to lay all its cards on the table. Talk about ugly! :D. Lance does not want all his old teammates talking about how he doped them!

The problem with taking great pains to cover something up is that once you are discovered, all the efforts at cover up point right back at you!

Jan Ullrich in yellow, BABY!:rolleyes:

Might that be lifetime?

Oh, I get it.

Only wish they could go back further.

As I noted in the USADA letter thread, the letter charges LA, JB, et al at the end with ““false statements and false testimony given under oath and in legal proceedings, and attempts to intimidate, discredit, silence and retaliate against witnesses.”

So they are definitely charging them with criminal behavior. The question seems to be whether someone else will pursue that, since USADA can't.

Under the WADA Code, trafficking can carry a lifetime ban from the sport even when it's the person's first time being charged with any kind of doping.

He'll be regretting not re-hiring Landis until the day he dies. He probably could have just paid a million bucks at the time... and got him on to some other pro tour team.

Yeah. Floyd's like the bitter ex-wife who snitches off her husband and gets him fired from his job (then loses her stake in his pension).

Nice to see both Floyd and Lance in it!

Has anyone got a list of the US riders who were on the relevant teams at the relevant times?

The USADA letter says that all of the US cyclists they contacted cooperated, and it also mentions statements from "more than ten" cyclists.

Did you notice the charge said anonymity for now but that they "will testify"?
