I'm in the US, and heard no comparisons from ToCA or ToCO to Paris Nice, the fourth grand tour, by anyone other than sarcastic forumites.

This race was hyped as exactly what it is: long climbs and high altitude. Any exaggerations are inventions by critics, to complain about the hype.

Have t disagree....I'm in the US also and subjected to P&P (poor me!). They constantly Talk Up the ToCA and this one...I find it quite sickening actually...

Sure it's to get the casual US fan interested, but the constant hyperbole is Really Irritating.

Awesome photos deagol, thanks for posting them!

No problem. I had what I thought was good video, but it sucked.. :(

Interesting to hear the Rabobank DS comments. Some of us familiar with the area have said the same thing (West-side of pass much harder climb than east side).

Also many of us have said that the route this year isn't the best route possible, but rather is the way it is due to logistics/politics/economics/whatever.

Also, I think as some have said here that HD video is a bad choice, since it doesn't work like the good old fashioned stuff.

One thing Europe has that I am glad we don't have is the Borat guy running alongside the racers...

No argument regarding Phil & Paul. They should retire. I saw both Frankie Andreu and Bob Roll in cars going up the pass long before the riders. No one except a very few knew who Frankie was but people were cheering for Bob Roll. I wish they would have cheered for Frankie considering what he had to deal with RE: you know who. I shake my head and ask myself why.. then I look at the "humanity" around myself and the answer becoumes apparent.

Infantino is their best TT rider and Castaneda is more of a sprinter (bearing in mind the sprinting level in Colombia is not high), yet they were both stronger than Baez, the team's best climber.

Just read that Baez in fact crashed... although I do think he was the EPM rider hanging on to the back of the main group on the climb.

Andy girl....

Sclecklet was 3:55 down on the leaders, even behind Ivan Basso......SHEESH.

He obviously has not learned anything of descending on wet roads yet:D

He gave up on the climb. Why go above 160 bpm when it's not even April?
His brother Fränk said he told Andy to attack on the climb to Crested Butte. Andy gave him an angry look, and then he attacked. Can you believe it? This guy really doesn't like to race. And apparently they're proud of it.
