Seems like a shame Formolo spent so long as a superdom, when he could have been doing this.
Not really. Despite being as talented as he is... he dont got much of sprint, not very explosive and rarely the absolute strongest.

How he dropped Zana with an intense effort on a short steep section has often been where he has been of his best use for his leader in recent times (Pog).

However, if Hirschi is not his teammate here... he could/would have probably joined him here but he didnt, since that could have meant Zana also tagging along.

Nice end to the season for Formolo though. 2nd win this fall for him. 6th in total of his career, which says a lot.

Would agree with some of that, but Pogacar exploding onto the scene had a huge impact on his personal ambitions. The fact he's just won two races now he's leaving the team also tells you a lot?

It doesnt tell me anything.

I think his recent wins are more circumstantial + good form, more than that he would have always been able to do this if able to ride for himself more. He loses this race, if he is not on the same team as Hirschi.

His best seasons were in 2018 and 2019.

2018, no win.

2019, two wins. Final stage in Catalunya and the national RR. Both solo wins, as these two recent were as well. A bunch of other good results, but do you get it or not?

Yeah, with His skillset Formolo will never win a lot, but He can score you a lot of Points in Long, hard one day races and has the engine for Long solo attacks.

2020 Formolo was still legit and Look how Strong He was when Pogacar won LBl and when He won Lombardia Last years. Imo His endurance ist His biggest strength.
Yes, that is why he has been great as a super-dom so it is nice that he gets two victories like these ones.

I loved that stretch on gravel/dirt climbing through the olive groves—the one where they had to go through the gate of the private estate to start. Would love to ride that.
Yea that was an awesome part of the route, even more special because like you mention it's private property and people don't just get a chance to climb it.

Otherwise a great win from Formolo today, he really was strong, and it helped to have Hirschi as backup obviously.
