The only question is. Would an in form Vingegaard beat Remco today?
Depends. If he reconned the course in advance he would’ve put minutes into Remco, but he usually only does that at the Tour so probably would’ve finished 5th or something.

Well O Gran Camino next week starts with a similar ITT. We can see how Vingegaard's form is.

Surprises me a bit to see Van Aert changing it up for his classics prep, they did everything right in Roubaix and his form wasn't the problem at all, just had some awful luck at end, I don't think he would've won Flanders regardless.
Good point.

If I'm being honest, I have the same worry...in some ways because MVP was so insanely strong in CX, that I think he is going to put everyone to the sword in every race he decides he wants to win. I think this could be his most dominate season ever. A Boonen 2012 kind of season, but better than that.
Van aer trained only once with his TT bike during the winter according to him, this result isn't that surprising if it's true.

7 riders OTL in a 22k tt

I honestly think if we picked the fastest guy on here and sent them to represent the forum we could get within 7 minutes of Evenepoel's time.
I dont think there is anyone on this forum, who can ride this course at 38,5 km/h just to be within 7 minutes.

24 mph for ~30 mins? I'd be pretty surprised if someone here couldn't readily do that. Give me that TT setup and I'd bet even money I could do that in my current fitness, and I'm SURE there are a lot of folks far stronger than my 56-year-old arse on this forum.

This ITT is an overkill. Reminds me of how horrible were the Indurain's years. Just a reminder of why Grand Tours have changed the way they design races. Not to mention that this is a 5 stage race, LOL.

I don't mind an occasional longer ITT, tbh, especially in a race like this, were usually nothing happens anyway. It's not like it makes tomorrow's stage any more or less exciting. There won't be much action, no matter the gaps.

Not every stage race needs to be very well balanced. Let's not forget that there are also stage races that have no time trial at all like Catalunya, Oman, Valenciana and the inclusion of a longer TT brings several of the best riders to the Algarve.

Personally I really enjoyed the stage itself but that is already a matter of opinion.
