La Molina stage is much better than other years, and Port Ainé will be the biggest climb seen so far this year.

I think there will be racing, but what could fail is the TV coverage if the weather is bad.

I wouldn't expect too much from this race tbh.

Guys like Froome and especially Aru are just getting back into race rhythm and won't be in peak shape. Aru actually builds towards Basque Country which he intends to win!?

That said, Contador got a shot a Basque Country as well and might hold back a little here because of that. Otherwise he might be fading a bit already at Itzulia while Aru & Co. keep getting stronger.

Never mind. Catalunya should be a good indicator of shape actually. The first big fight everyone is waiting for is gonna happen at Basque Country I believe.

Id be surprised if Contador rides both Catalunya and Pais Vasco
How come? It wouldn't be the first time.
He might miss Catalunya if he's really ill but why would he skip Pais Vasco?

Porte is also ill, Contador and him might have been riding to close to each other in Paris Nice

Why should he skip them? He won't ride the Ardennes or Romandie, so he probably wants to have his first (less impressive) peak of form for Pais Vasco, Aru is doing the same.
A few teams are really bringing lots of Firepower, both Sky and Astana have a monster team, Katusha have Zakarin, Purito and Taaramäe, on paper BMC are also really strong, even if LRP is ill (Hermans, Atapuma, Bookwalter and Sammy Sanchez as domestiques for Teejay and a few other teams are also bringing lots of strong climbers.

I see now that my post wasn't very clear, I meant "why would you be surprised? It wouldn't be the first time he rides both Catalunya and Pais Vasco" so basically I agree with you, why would he skip 1 of them? (Unless he is ill)

No excuse for Contador to prove that he is in similar shape of 2014.
Port Aine is a real climb that suits him, hope for the best

Here's hoping TV coverage of the Volta a Catalunya is better than the last few years.

Well it won't be here in the USA that is for sure. Last year we had Universal Sports live daily, now we have Zero tv coverage :(

If it's like in previous years, you won't be missing much. The local Catalan broadcaster, which provides the feed for everyone else, really needs to get its act together.

I have no complaints of the last 10 years I had it live on tv, I totally enjoyed it! This year it'll be crappy streams :(

Focusing on a non GC contest it'll be interesting to see Bouhanni goes up against Gerrans for the sprints. Other than Meersmann (if he's got his sprinting legs back), Van Der Sande (if he can step up against riders of the calibre of Bouhanni), Swift (if he can get team support and has a good day sprint wise) and Arndt (who should try mainly focus on stage 1) I don't think anyone else can compete on the flatter sprints. Gilbert and Vakoc should also ride well on some of the harder stages.
GC wise Porte has a strong team and good form (but is sick), so I think one of Contador or Froome should win.

contador generally beats froome in spain. with a notorious theory of bertie having an edge form-wise after algarve and paris-nice, it's gonna be the first 2016 showdown.

Of course, the Contador Clan already has the illness excuse at the ready in case Bertie gets curb-stomped by Froome.

Why? Because we all know riders never get ill after a week of hard racing in the cold, or because we all know being ill could never lead to a sub-par performance in any way?
