Vuelta 2017 stage 19 Caso (Parque de Redes) - Gijón 149.7 km

The interesting rider for me is Bilbao. He appears to have great form but has been dutiful in the pointless support of Aru. With Aru complaining yesterday he might be let off the leash and, if so, would be favourite in most breakaways he'd find himself in.

Re: Vuelta 2017 stage 19 Caso (Parque de Redes) - Gijón 149.

This is a stage where literally anything could and probably will happen. The only thing one could predict with any
certaintyis that Alberto will attack at some point.Should he decide to go at the bottom of the last climb that spells trouble not for Froome but for Nibali. If Alberto goes there Froome will go with him and if they really put the hammer down then there could be big gaps at the top.Nibali conceded 20 seconds in less than a kilometre
on a similar profile if somewhat shorter yesterday.Nibali could get back on the descent a la Andorra but the butchers bill will have to be paid on Saturday.

What to say - another great design, we have been spoiled by this from the Unopuerto team.

100% certain that the great Bertie will attack on the last climb - and I think the Shark as well - it suits him better than a small finishing murito, where dawg did very well yesterday, but again it was a climb where you just turned on your computer...

What we hope for - is a Katusha style attack earlier on the stage for full carnage mode. Just anything that makes dawg lose LV18.

Someone should hammer this. Make it haaaarrrrddd

I hope so - if the Shark can get the deficit down to 1:00 - then Vollgas from the top ramp of the Cordal tomorrow on wet roads!

I expect to see Villella in the break today. He needs the points in case Lopez goes wild tomorrow.

This is a safe prediction. I wasted about an hour today figuring out the permutations for King of the Mountains and concluded that Villela is the highly likely winner. Good overs with bookmakers at around $2.20. Just needs to go all out to get in the break and get points on the first Cat 1 and that almost seals it (unless Lopez wins on Angliru) then he can just coast.

I agree that Bilbao is a good call for stage honours if allowed to hunt for the breakaway. Surely Contador, Zakarin and Nibali have to get their teams active in the breaks so that if they make an attack stick on the final climb they have support on the 15km run to the line.

sounds good on paper, but it's all but a given that a breakaway group will have established until the top of the first climb. And if that's the case, Lopez is more likely to score points than Villella

Posible winners include Sanchez, Costa, Yates bros ( take your pick) ,Aqua Blue (whole team) , Majka, Buchman, Moreno, Soler, Bilbao, Carapaz,Mas, Jungels, Allaphillipe ( mad breakaway records are broken) de Gendt, Trentin , Attapuma, Polanc, Pantano, Roson, Poljanski, Rojas, Mohoric,Lutsenko, Bardet, Simon Clarke ( Kirby's wet dream),Olivier, Marczynski, Visconti, de Marchi, Caruso, Mate, Navarro, Pardilla, LG Mas, Aguirre, Bol...

possibly in that order

Excluding Villela crashing, there is a zero probability that Lopez scores more than him on the first climb.

Think that just about covers it, yes.

I'd like to see Roson take the stage for Spain and get something out of what has been a bit of a disappointing race for him so far.
