Besides it was very clear to Majka that he had to drop Allaphilippe in order to win. So he kind of knew he had to attack him to drop him. Alla was playing his chances by staying with Majka in every attack. Simple.

Contador has said he didn't feel really good today. When Froome took some distance from him, it was because he wanted to take a breath but nothing else.

Alaphilippe just needed to stick with Majka and beat him in the sprint, which he did. Perfect riding by him. Snowboarder should stick to winter sports.

Great win by bala junior. But unfortunately i'm more certain that bala junior is just a uphill sprinter, he is not a attacker at all.
Both Froome and Contador will progressively run out of gas in this Vuelta and might see their differential strenght with Chaves, Nibali and Zakarin narrowed.
The administration of efforts is going to be key, and with a Froome that appears to want to sentence the race before the 3rd week, expect big differences in Calar Alto, La Pandera and Sierra Nevada along with surprising explosions in Cantabria and Asturias after the rest day.

Contador looks pretty good the last few days; a podium place is surely not out of the question but he'll probably have to do it through attrition.

This. It looks like he and Froome are the class of the field, and if can stick with CF, the others will likely fade. He's still got a chunk of time to take but a little here and a little there (like today) will get him there.

We still need to hold out horses with Berto, these climbs has been exactly like the ones where he was good at last year as well. If/when he can follow/beat the field in multimountain stage with 15km 8-9% climbs we will have a case.
And the discussion about Froome fading vs. Conti is bollocks, Berto has Tour also in his legs + more racing miles throughout the year than Froome.

Today was very steep for his size but he hung with de la Cruz, A Yates, Tejay, Meijes, Kelderman
