It's a classic move to leave the escape dangling just within reach, it discourages further attacks in the run-up to the finish and gives the sprint trains time to organise.

That said, we don't really know how big this group is and who it contains.

Well if they're all there, why work? Surely Radioshack hould try to put time into Engoulvert if he had been dropped.
