But a certain G.Baez is also in that second group. So Blanco can't win

I was talking about Volta a Portugal. For someone who has been sidelined for a good part of the early season due to lack of a team, he's putting a good performance since his comeback. Which makes me believe he still has it to win it. Should be a great duel with Mestre during summer.

I should have specified, my bad.

NO!!!! as much as i like blanco i don't want a spanish guy holding the record of volta wins.

Mestre will repeat  also i like carmins kit+bike combination. pretty cool

Yea, I was disappointed enough when he levelled Chagas. But that Efapel team is mighty stacked.

Marque has been being pretty good in this race for a while - think he was 10th last year despite not really being a climber at all. With the Alto del Acebo removed, and the potential to add a bit more to his lead in the ITT, he could perhaps manage the top 5 here.

I also like Carmim's kit, but I don't think I'd want to be wearing it to climb mountains in 40º heat in August.

carmim has the best kits so chapeau!i hope mestre can take it overall

until august it will be enough time for nuno ribeiro to find his old form and kill everybody uphill

i must admit nuno ribeiro is one of my guilty pleasures. shame he got nailed so soon after getting to the international scene :(

Ah Ribeiro is my first big disappointment in cycling. It was the first Volta I followed and I was thrilled that, as a leader, he attacked like 14km out on Serra da Estrela. Only to be caught :-D

How are the Piedras Blancas and Alto del Naranco stages compared to last year? In 2011, he lost 3 seconds to Moreno in the first and 36 seconds in the later. So maybe is not so optimistic to say a bit more than Top 5...Of course circunstances do matter, but it's interesting to look at these times.

btw, what is up with urtasun climbing like one of the best this year?

I second that, one of the biggest surprices of the year so far for me how Urtasun suddenly can climb. And today he even showed some speed again something he also seemed to have lost last season. Maybe the curse of being a spanish CSC-stagiere is beginning to wear off.

Urtasun has been really unlucky recently, though, he deserves a win after all these placings. He did show some climbing talent before if I'm not mistaken, but his form is surprising indeed. Yet I can't believe Euskaltel were not able to bring back Marque. They will have miscalculated, as they still tend to do way too often.

Good win for Carmim-Prio, anyway.

Yes, their bike-handling and downhilling skills are excellent, but I just didn't think Jon could win this TT, in this kind of field he mostly comes 7th or something.

He has been improving steadily over the last few years. I hope he'll do a great Giro, he definitely could try to win a mountain stage from a break.
