Kelly's talking about stages that happened in past Vueltas and ignoring time cuts the last time the Vuelta went to Formigal.

And now he and Kirby are slagging Brian Smith's choice of dinner venues.

It was actually pretty funny. I laughed listening to them.

Definitely a touch of the Duffields about today's commentary. Carlton going on about persimmons was pure 1990s TdF transition stage.

10km to go now, the break's been caught, and it's definitely more serious now.

All the sprint trains spread across the road, then under the 3km banner Quickstep come out of nowhere and string everyone out.

Looked like Bennett won't continue where he stopped in Paris.
Great work by UAE nevertheless.

Enjoyable sprint, Ackermann might need to get a bit creative because he couldn't even try and get round Bennett there.

And that equals* the record number of GT stages taken in one year by Irish riders, four. With both Bennett and Dan Martin looking good so far there has to be a good chance of that record being broken outright over the next 14 stages.

(* thanks to @ruamruam for answering this one for me, I thought three was the most previously)

Bennett was flying to catch Philipsen's slipstream, and once he got into a bit of that air, he was never getting caught. Philipsen timed his move perfectly, and Bennett timed his reaction perfecter.
