The pace right now is maybe not too hard, judging by the size of the peloton.

Think Ineos might have actually planned to set Van Baarle up as a satellite rider and have Bernal bridge to him on the second time of Collada Llomena but given that the break went to *** I can't see much happening before Covadonga. A 40km valley in between is just too big.

Jumbo have played it perfectly. No one for attackers to bridge to and 20+ km of gradual gradient before the final climb makes attacking early difficult. The descent will also be as much of an issue for his rivals as it will be for Roglic, only Bernal and perhaps Haig are capable of trying something there without risking doing a Superman at the Tour last year.

Just to make sure I understand this, if the rain gets too strong before the final climb and they have to cancel the race the riders still get half points because they rode two laps, right?
And Eiking gets his red jersey back.
