Mate is just ecstatic on the podium, good for the orange squad!

Edit - only just now found out Mate is 40, wow! I have a new old rider to root for!
I smile at the directors of small teams making the most of these opportunities, getting people prolonged camera time in breakaway efforts!! The orange crush and Kern Pharma are really getting great exposure and some decent results..

Congratulations to Wout van Aert for winning a stage of the Vuelta al Ecuador, thanks to a CQ editor typo.

Maybe the race suddenly becoming Latin American explains the Andean Condor celebration. I knew I'd seen it before, and of course I had - from Gonzalo Najár.

Somewhat similar to when your favorite rider burst onto the scene (like Micah Richards, if you know, you know) in 2012 and won three stages.

Edit: And while we are it the comparison, above mentioned Micah is very comparable to how Blythe does punditry - only difference being Micah is fun and loveable, but Orla is certainly no Kate Abdo, and Dan Lloyd is certainly no Roy Keane either.

I wouldn't exactly call the guy that won three stages at the 2012 Vuelta a España "bursting onto the scene". I mean, he was 33 years old and had been top 10 of six GTs before then ;)

Great to see Wout bounce back from his crash 5 months ago and polish off the big names like Antonio Jesús Soto and Arjen Livyns.

I get your point but don't underestimate Livyns, in the 2020 RVV edition he was 3rd fastest on all the climbs just after WVA and MVP, ahead of the likes of Pedersen and Van Avermaet.

What a stupendous victory by Wout van Aert, winning stage 3 of the Vuelta, proving once again what an incrediblely versatile rider he is, maintaining his stranglehold on the red jersey, and establishing a grip on the green.

Sagan had at least half a dozen finish line salutes: Forest Gump, Hulk, the wheelies; that's just from memory, I'm sure a quick internet search would turn up more.
He did a few in the 2012 Tour, then never again, yet that's his legacy for some dumb reason.

To be fair, we have a 40-year-old with a bit of a history wearing a classification jersey and a big guy who wins sprints in the leader's jersey who can turn into an elite climber for brief periods every year, the route may have been lacklustre but at least the weather and some of the riders paid tribute to what cycling in Portugal is all about. The women's TdF gave us the other element, the completely counter-intuitive and insane tactics, although for bonus Volta a Portugal points Danny Stam would have needed to call up the commentators mid-race and insult his own riders. Bahrain needed to sign Stannard early enough to get him on the startlist, though.
