Stage 15, 16 and 19
Roglic will gain at least 1 minute at those MTF on BOC.
If he has the legs, if he doesn't crash, if other GC guys won't be better by following his wheel and jump him towards the top. He basically needs to be perfect to the end. And there is more then 2/3 of the race still left. And he's never perfect...

It is now interesting. As viewer I can't find anything to complain about the situation. Tactical misjudgment, especially by the favourites, are often what makes cycling interesting. Except when it's by your favourite, of course.
I love it although my favourite lost a lot of time yesterday. Now we have a race on our hand :)

O’Connor is on a whole different level from Kivilev, who had never before shown any real talent for GC in the GTs. He was a solid climber, but not near as dangerous as O’Connor on a course not near as draining as the 2001 Tour. There aren’t any stages with multiple HC climbs where you can blow O’Connor up.
Kivilev climbed with the best at the Dauphine. Just like O'Connor.

O'Connor's 4th place at the 2021 Tour de France came thanks to a successful breakaway as well. And weak opponents like Kelderman and Lutsenko.

Of course. But in the end the big guns were confident enough to lean Hindley the yellow jersey last year.

And even Kuss would have been beaten by Vingegaard if he had wanted up towards Angliru.

The Visma scenario was of course quite different, and Hindley's lead was a lot smaller. There's nothing wrong with expecting O'Connor to lose time later in the race, but nearly 5 minutes is a lot for a guy who only finished 2 minutes behind the strongest human in the Giro.

I actually agree that it's going to ask a big price for Mas if he still wants to beat O'Connor for 3rd place.

Roglic, Almeida & Mas now all 3 have to ride aggressively on stages like Hazallanas & Cuitu Negru. Which hopefully creates great entertainment for the race.

It would make sense for those 3 to make an alliance, so that if one attacks the others agree to work with him to grab back time. But we rarely see that unless riders are from the same country.

It's a mutual goal so they should and may do that until they've equalized the differential. If they manage to get 2-3 minutes tomorrow the cooperation will likely stop. Then it'll be a race among them; hopefully netting more time but you wouldn't want to be the weakest (including team ability) among them and still dedicating full effort.

O,Connor also has a 4th in the Giro. Granted he was well behind Pogacar, but had he raced smarter, he could have been on the podium in an average GC field.

Also, Primos isn’t Lance Armstrong. Yes he was clinically enhanced, but he was a much more dominant force and more aggressive rider in his day compared to the rest of the peloton.

Pereiro is a much closer example, and he won the TDF that year.
