Big Mads wants the sprint points so the break kept on a short leash and looks like no win for the break (Vine to attack after the sprint?)

Pedersen tried to join the break, but as he was caught by the peloton (Q36.5?), Lidl-Trek now controls for Cicco.

Israel should honestly also try to contain Pedersen, the latter can only win green through breakaways.

That's harsh, he's been coming just outside the top ten on stage finishes so it's just a matter of time before he comes fifth or something

Vine said yesterday that he expected today to be won from the peloton and that he will help Almeida.
He's saying the right words, lets see if they'll turn into reality or not.

UAE is getting a lot of criticism for their tactics so far, just like in the Giro during the first 2 weeks.

Idunno, it has its uses. For example, today I learned that something called a "Liam Slock" exists.
yeah, the Vuelta is always good for things like this. The other day I saw that someone called Marcel Camprubi does a daily vlog from the race.

Apparently he rides for Q36.5. Since 2023.

Lidl will surely pull it back before the bonus sprint. Otherwise they are gifting the green jersey to Vinge by doing this.

Looks to me like they are mainly interested in the stage win. Pederson could probably have been in the break if they had to have the points. I would guess they (along with Q36) were instrumental in shutting down anything dangerous early on - hence the relatively weak break.

Pedersen tried to join the break, but was caught by the peloton. I think Lidl-Trek only controlled after that.

Lidl have a good team for this sort of stage, Ciccone could be in trouble in the proper mountains though. He could do with at least 1 proper climber, were Kamna, Lopez or Hart not feeling it/injured or something or do they just not have much faith in his GC?

The simple answer is that normally Trek never has to carry the race, and maybe he has a shot versus Almeida in a 1v1 on the MTFs alone.
