What a **** route, let's already give a win to some Radioshack TT'er. But, stage one belongs to Jonathan Tiernan-Locke :D

It's annoys me, this stage gets same amount of points for Gc in CQ ranking like Algarve or longer 2.1 race, shows the CQ's few flaws.

Also on your starlist, Sky doesn't start here ;)

The provisional startlist includes Denis Menchov, don't think he will ride, what with Paris-Nice starting at the same time. So it's Cobo vs. Sanchez vs. Rodriguez vs. Poels? edit: and JTL of course.

This race seems to have found the ideal solution for a lack of funds: provide zero information, so people don't care about your race and it will disappear next year.

Uh, Radioshack isn't racing.

I know, I should have said 'if they raced'.

Looking at the starlist, Clement would be a good bet. I've no idea how JTL tt's though. Valverde's another good bet, after that good prologue in Analucia.

That climb is too hard for Clement. Actually I think JTL can win this one as well, to add to the legend.

I disagree, it will be a fun, short race. Not investing a lot of interest of course, but I like that the real stage is long-ish, with a little change up at the end by finishing on a short descent. And 12k on the TT bike won't overwhelm any gaps earned on the mountain.

Could be a good two days, criterium internatioale-esque

It is the same route as last year more or less, just without a flat stage which is irrelevant to the GC. On the Collado Bermejo stage last year, Contador was first followed by Menchov and Coppel, then Duarte and Poels. The same riders were top 5 on GC I believe. It's not a bad route for a 2-day race.

Not much they can do about it though - they're just following the UCI categories. It gives the same UCI points as well, blame them if you must.

Volta ao Algarve was decided by one mountain stage and one ITT, same here so why should the overall winner get less points?I like it.
Having flat(mass sprint) stages make sense in a 3 week GT so that the gc riders have some recovery and the performance level doesnt sink so much but in a 3 day event or even a one week race, sprint stages are a waste of time and money.

battle of the century is just ahead of us

Valverde wont ride, Paris Nice starts on sunday.
Murcia is a great opportunity for Wilco to grab his first big win. All he needs to do is stay in the front group in stage one and get a decent result at stage two. Any other good climbers/tters heading Murcia this weekend ? Expect Dumoulin i cant see any.

Lol, you're underestimating the climb a little. Neither Kelderman nor Dumoulin are favourites. This one is for the real climbers. Last year's result, with the same final:

1. [ESP] CONTADOR VELASCO Alberto SBS 4h46'57"
2. [RUS] MENCHOV Denis GEO 05"
3. [FRA] COPPEL Jérôme SAU 05"
4. [COL] DUARTE AREVALO Fabio Andres GEO 25"
5. [NED] POELS Wout VCD 27"
6. [FRA] GENIEZ Alexandre SKS 57"
7. [NOR] NORDHAUG Lars Petter SKY 01'17"
8. [FRA] LEVARLET Guillaume SAU 01'17"
9. [FRA] JEANDESBOZ Fabrice SAU 01'17"
10. [ESP] BLANCO RODRIGUEZ David GEO 01'17"

I know those results, but still guys like Levarlet and Jeandesboz were in top ten. And none of the last years' top five will be at the start this year. And without Contador there wil be smaller differences, im pretty sure of that. Expect Purito and Samu i cant see any other top climbers here. Maybe Cobo but he wont be in any decent shape yet. Anyone else ? If Dumoulin and Kelderman were able to survive climbs in Andalucia with much better field then im sure they can also survive those in Murcia and a longer TT (with some corners at least) also gives them small advantage over guys like Samu and Purito.

Those climbs in the Ruta del Sol were more like hills, the queen stage had a climb with only 2 k of serious gradients. I'd be surprised if Dumoulin had suddenly turned into a real climber. If you're looking for a Dutch candidate FTW, Poels seems a more logical bet.

edit: and I think Dumoulin will ride Strade Bianche?

The climb is harder than those in Andalucia but there is also a descent to the finish which will probabbly make a diffrances smaller. According to biciciclismo, Vacansoleil will not ride (on the other hand wielerland have a full Vanacsoleil lineup for Murcia so i guess they will ride at all) and i dont know about Dumoulin, it was just a thought ;)
