What stage was it last year that had the 20%+ wall up into a village? Wild seeing guys get off their bikes...think Gesink lost 20 seconds or so on that hill.
Gesink lost much more, he crashed on the descent before that climb.

Alto de Aia in the last stage before the TT. ;)

Shame for the viewers it isn't on this year's route (I couldn't find it, anyway). The long camera view of the climb was tortuous to watch. I love this race.

While I can appreciate the history and prestige of P-R and Ronde, I always look forward to the stage races' mountainous staes and the hilly classics more than the cobbled classics.

Is it that difficult to fathom someone having a different viewpoint and preference?

In THIS case - no, and way easier to understand. :D

Yea, no Aia this year. It reaches up to 28% at its steepest. Like Montelupone but better. And I say that as probably Montelupone's biggest fan (outside of Joaquím Rodríguez).

Pity, it was well broadcast which added to the impact.

Shush. Thou shalt regret thy words by the end of the week!

Seriously though, I think the final podium will be: 1 Samu. 2. Gesink (at the front all the time but loses 1-2 minute because of bad luck at some point) 3. Uran

Yeah I think too 1. Samu 2. Gesink

But this race is also unpredictable (just look at Horner winning last year)

Hey DT, I'm holding you personally responsible for Poel's performance.
I hope Poels can ride top 10, that would be really awesome, but I'm not counting on anything.

Amets' greatness transcends such dull things as results. It may not be worth any points to the UCI, but his escapades are worth more than a lot of the riders you did name.

Am I right in thinking that there was a stage last year with the little short cobbled climb that some guys ended up running up?

he sucked or didn't bother at criterium, not sure which; didn't really follow it this year.

if he doesn't get dropped in stage 1, he is quick enough to be amongst it.
