Vos is the Olympic and World champions in the same calendar year. Has this been done by any other woman or man before?

Being in Rabo has paid off for Vos big time.

Congrats to Vos she deserves it but a superb ride by Rachel Neylan. Had a lot of health issues in the past issues and was dumped from the National squad. Excellent ride.

Vos is brilliant, but it's so weird that the chase just died when the peloton only had like 20 secs to the break after Marianne bridged on Cauberg.

Apparently Vos climber the Cauberg as the U23 men did this morning.

It's probably wrong since dutch commentator Ducrot said it and he likes to talk bull**** :)

i won't be surprised to find out that she was faster

very lame race until marianne attacked.she totally annihilated all the girls out there

when she did launched the first attack, she climbed the cauberg in 1:52...that's faster than some winning times from the boys in amstel:D

like lance would say: NOT NORMAL:D

in the final lap i couldn't take it,but her burst of speed reminded me more of phil and purito than women's racing.probably around 1:45 lol

when you see something like this, you just have to take your hat off.
crazy.

Great race by the women today. I am glad after last year's race.
Definitely, though I'd say the Olympic RR showed that that was a one-off borne of extremely timid racing on the worst parcours for the Worlds in years, and would have been the worst for a generation had they not given Doha them.

When Marianne Vos is up the road on terrain like this, chasing is futile. The Netherlands also had several engines to disrupt the chase. A bit like Gilbert, the Cauberg is almost perfectly designed for Vos - it gives those who can compete with her in the sprint too much to do, lets her get away with her punch but flattens out enough that if the other riders who can attack uphill get there with her she can still beat them on the flat.

Rabo is going to keep Vos until the bank bankrupts.

And she's only 25.
The biggest problem will be keeping her motivated - not winning the Worlds after her breakthrough performance in 2006 had been unfinished business. I really hope she doesn't end up retiring before she's even peaked, like Magdalena Neuner.

Definitely. She's been in good form lately, good results in the Tour de l'Ardèche coming into these Worlds.

voss is just so superior to all the other women it's not even funny, thank god she is aggressive so at least the races she wins are exciting.

she fully deserved this one
Some dominant sportspeople are boring automatons, at least in their performances (away from the sport they can be entertaining and/or likable personalities)(Schumacher, Armstrong, Wiggins) but others can dominate whilst always enlivening proceedings (Contador, Neuner, Rossi). It may be frustrating watching the same people win repeatedly, but at least they win in style.

She wasn't half bad before...

Vos is best rider on Rabobank (Yeah she's better than all of men too)
Physiologically, she actually is better than most of the Rabobank men. At least in terms of Watt/kg, as tested in the lab.

She has a huge intrinsic motivation, I don't think that will be the problem. In fact I think it's this even more than her physical talent that brings her these wins.

I have thought about this, and the only thing that's Archilles' heels for her is her TT. She can make it her goal next year to win the TT and RR in the WC.

Cancellara almost did it in 2009

She's a racer, I think she needs oppostion to bring out the best in her.

If you are suggesting that she needs to ride alongside her opponents to be motivated, I disagree.

She has won national TT's before and also this year's Giro Donne TT, so she competes her TT's at a high level already. But when it comes to competing with the very best in WC and Olympics, she cracks. So I think she can improve on that.

She can win prologues and other TTs where she can use her explosiveness. Longer slogs aren't her specialty.

She's kind of the female Lars Boom (TT-wise).

She's like Boom in other aspects too: cross, one-day, week-long stage races. She's not the best climber, but she can hang on to someone like Pooley in the big mountains, so she's better than Boom as an overall rider.

But the question was what can keep her motivated. I think she has the potential to become more like a Cancellara. Strong classic-type rider who can do long-range attacks and excel in long TT's. This woman has got an F1 engine in her. Rabo needs to maximize her potential.

Chris Froome, who finished second at the Tour de France and third in the Olympic time trial, again behind Wiggins, intends to do all his work in the first 200km of the race

Froome will work exclusively in first 200km for JTL

She's not a Cancellara, the male racer closest to her characteristics is probably Gilbert. Decent climber, very explosive, good sprint.
