So apparently there's no longer such rule. I did read it on several websites (http://www.nieuwsblad.be/article/detail.aspx?articleid=GAQ2VEJOI for example). The WC in Ronse 1988 (the one with Bauer-Criquielion ->Fondriest) for example carefully avoided all cobbles (what was quite a challenge over there)
I tried looking for it, but I could't find any WC with cobbles held since the 70s...

The course is more of a Flanders than an Ardennes.

Still anything would be better than last years wash out.
