I've read that a rough hewn stone or ashlar represents a new initiate into the craft (or on to the list of champions??), and a master builder is represented by the perfect ashlar - or perfectly smooth and true stone.

Perhaps I'm imagining things, but I thought I read somewhere that team owners (master builders??) received a smoothed cobblestone trophy, but I haven't been able to find or refind anything that would support that notion.
As for the Trident trophy for Tirreno-Adriatico, well, it's the "Race of the Two Seas. Poseidon and Neptune were the Greek and Roman Gods of the Sea, and well...
