Earlier today, the UCI advised Spanish rider Manuel Vazquez Hueso that he is provisionally suspended. The decision to provisionally suspend this rider was made in response to a report from the WADA accredited laboratory in Barcelona indicating an Adverse Analytical Finding of EPO in a urine sample collected from him in an out of competition test on 20 March 2010.

This targeted test was carried out on the basis of information contained in the rider’s biological passport.

The provisional suspension of Mr Vazquez Hueso remains in force until a hearing panel convened by the Spanish Cycling Federation determines whether he has committed an anti-doping rule violation under Article 21 of the UCI Anti-Doping Rules.

Mr Vazquez Hueso has the right to request and attend the analysis of his B sample.

Under the World Anti-Doping Code and the UCI Anti-Doping Rules, the UCI is unable to provide any additional information at this time.

He had some pretty good results this year, with a 3rd and an 8th in the Challenge Mallorca races, and 8th in the Vuelta a Andalucía including 4th on the MTF. Two top 10 stage showings in last year's Vuelta (4th in the stage Deignan won, 9th in the stage Cobo won behind the lead group and ahead of the likes of Joaquím Rodríguez and Sylwester Szmyd); 9th in the Vuelta a Burgos, 3rd in the Vuelta a La Rioja. I'm not going to claim he's a big star or anything, but he's got some better results than some of the bio passport catches, e.g. Francesco de Bonis, who spent about two months on the road before Gerolsteiner took him off the road under internal suspension.

The fact that a moderately successful rider is doping proves:

The peloton is clean, those who want to dope have to freelance and therefore are easier to catch

OR

The peloton is is doped from top to bottom: only riders not on a big budget team programme get caught.
