What a tragedy for Norway, poor Thor and Evald

I'm not one for Off-topic posts, so if mod's want to block/move it, I'm fine with that.

Having gone from mild uneasiness towards full shock after the scope of the disaster becomes clear I feel a need to post this. I'm adressing Thor and Evald as they are close to me as a cycling fan. I myself doubt my motives, but here goes.

A human tragedy is overshadowing their great efforts and performances. I hope it won't tarnish their victories, but I'm afraid they will now always look back at this TdF and remember the dreadful happenings at home.

I wish them strength and courage.

I gotta admit I've been joking that I don't want any more Norwegian stage wins. Because of the Danish-Norwegian cycling "war"... But now I say

Go Eddie the Boss! Take that TT win!

I know winning ain't gonna bring the people who died back but Norway derserves some good after what happened. Or rather, they deserve to climb back onto the Mountain-of-Cycling-Joy.

devastating... and it gets worse and worse as the news comes in :(

one of my lasting memories on the Champs was when Thor got pipped at the line. i had been standing near some Norwegian fans who were screaming their guts out. i was almost scared to approach them afterwards but, when i offered my condolences, they smiled like angels and said "that's life."

it is a long shot. a real loooooooooong shot, but i would so love Thor to take that win tomorrow. for a lovely country, its lovely people, and all those lives lost.

Again, I know it doesn't change anything but it would be nice if Thor and EBH battles out the win on the Champs. I can imagine Farrar letting Thor have a crack this time. Only problem is the Green jersey comp is still on. Cav can't afford to ease up.

Sorry but this is ridiclous!

I just said that every minute people die in tragic ways. And if we feel bad about this all the time we can not have a normallife anymore. Cause we we have to feel bad all the time.
That'swhy it is silly to feel bad for Thor and Edvald. It was a tragic event. But every day in Norway peopledie in tragic circumstances. And nobody cares about them!

Seriously? That's bull**** right there. If we'd have to let people win races just because some tragedy happened in their country then you're abusing those victims. That Japanese guy didn't get to win Milan-San Remo you know.

Thor shouldn't get anything from this. And unless he lost a relative I doubt he'll have a trauma of this...

Dude seriously. Is it a life long goal for you to get in peoples faces at every given opportunity? I see your point, and every day 16.000 children dies from excessive hunger for an example. But if people want to offer their condolences to the norwegians on this forum, I think they should be allowed to do so, without them having to listen to you telling em you find it ridiculous. If you have a problem with it, just ignore it and move on. Would be the right thing to do in a situation like this, don't you agree? Had it happen in Germany I'm sure you would appreciate people offering their respect as well.

You have a lot of growing up to do bud.

100% agreed.

But here I'm not so sure. He won't be traumatized, but chances are Norwegians will remember this tour as the time when the horroble incident happened.

That is understandable and unavoidable, still, I feel sympathy for them. I'm sure few norwegians are celebratory the next days.. something which in happier days have been a happy event for them.

FFS!!!!!

Some of the responses in this thread really make it hard to keep coming back to this forum.

If you can't respect the OP, then just find something else to do with your time (and your life).

Lack of empathy is all too common around here. WTF?!?!

I wish Thor and Edvald all the best in the aftermath of this tragedy.

I don't need/deserve respect for this post.. I even question my own motives.

Why would I feel sorry for two bike racers because their wins are overshadowed by a horrendous event? It's rather trivial all things considered. And yet I do feel that emotion.. I feel for them.
