Red Hook Long Hammer IPA.
Redhook_Long_Hammer_IPA_200.jpg

I basically gave up on New Belgium Brewery lately, everything I've been drinking makes their beers taste really bland.

Longhammer is good, try Ranger IPA from New Belgium before you dismiss them entirely. It is very good.

Dammit HJ, I've invested too much time and money into New Belgium, had 'em all, and I'm over them. They're like a played out song that I can't stop listening to. I still buy the Fat Tire cans every so often if I'm feeling nostalgic.

Fat Tire is somewhat lame IMO, and most of their others are downright mediocre, but if you haven't yet, try the Ranger, it is a very good IPA.

I've had the Ranger, but when it comes to domestics I rarely venture past my local breweries like Summit, Schell, James Page. Summit's IPA is top notch.

Also, I recently met of bunch of guys at this bike shop that I hardly ever walk into that make scary good IPA's. No less than 3 of the wrenches there are home brewers. Hard to beat home brew, ya know.;)

ROGUE Brewery Captain Sig's Northwestern Ale. I just had to get it. Fan of the show, and fan of beer. Truthfully, I wasn't sure about it, but it's by ROGUE. Can't really go wrong with any of their brews. This one is a reddish brown ale with a hint of Chocolate malts. Pleasantly surprised how good this one is. Buy it, and a portion of the proceeds go to the Fishermen's Fund

Holy cow, I can't believe I went through this entire thread, all 43 pages, looking to see if this is where I read something about Anchor Steam Beer. It's from San Francisco Ca. Maybe I read about it in print.
I'm on the east coast of the U.S.
$9.99 a six pack. I should have checked the beer seller's price book as there wasn't a price for it displayed in the refrigerator case. Last time I grab and go.
It's okay. However, it's not worth $9.99 a six pack.
I did buy a case of Franziskaner Weissbier for my friend. Now there is a tasty beer. Champagne-like. Worth every penny of $39.99 for a case of 20 16.9 ounce bottles.
It's brewed by Spaten.
In fine print on the bottle, as per American law, it's labeled Malt Liquor.
Their website shows 5% alcohol content.

I luuuuuuv Anchor Steam and Fraziskaner during the warmer summer months. Used to have an army of proper Fraziskaner glasses too, I'm down to one. Can you guess why? :D

having lived in the city where Anchor Steam is brewed, the beer is ok, the City is the best though. California has a lot of great brews. Stone Brewery is
one you should try. kick your ssa.

mmm stone beer

Stone makes excellent beer, as does Russian river brewing.
Tonight I'm drinking Avery Czar Imperial stout. It's just okay, and I usually love anything from Avery. One of the best breweries in Co IMO.

Maybe I just don't like imperial stouts....

I find it sad that New Belgium is the most widely distributed microbrew out of Co, when there are several others that are much better.

Avery, Odells, Oskar Blues to name a few.

Driving down to do a 65km road race tomorrow, and might stop off on the way and buy a beer or two to save for LBL, or I'll just drink it when I get home.

I think I could spend a fortune in there. How expensive are the beers?

they run 4 to 6 dollars a pint. at happy hour they can be half price. i never get the bottle stuff, as the fresh brew is always good. also the hamburger, yes the
hamburger is great too.

Now if i could just find that bloody bottle opener;)

Right now, I have a 6-pack of Anchor Steam in the fridge. I pretty much like any beer that isn't mainstream US or Australian.

Great thread by the way. Much better than the bloody "cat thread"!

Spoiled water? I've been trying to put my finger on that taste on and off for years. I don't think you could have put it better.

"That Taste" you refer to is probably the "skunked" hops. The alpha acids in the hops react with ultraviolet light resulting in that distinctive Heinie - Corona taste. Same will happen to any beer in a bottle other than brown, which block the UV.... unless they use pre-isomerized hop extracts like Miller High Life. Then tghe reason it tastes bad is because its High Life.

good to know

Dogfish Head 90 minute IPA. Duvel and Chimay (Grand Reserve, preferably) (though around here its hard to get my hands on anything that hasn't been sitting on a shelf for an eternity). Sam Adams Cream Stout (easy to get; relatively cheap).

Question. Am I tasting "That Taste" in Newcastle Brown?
