What ever happened to Paul Willerton?

I was going through some old magazines from the early '90s, and saw him as a "rising star" in a Powerbar ad when he was on Z Team.
What happened to his pro career? After a big of Googling, it seems he badly hurt his knee in a crash, then he might've done some MTB racing, but that's all I could find out

Saw him at a bodacious race in Oregon '02 or earlier called Columbia Plateau SR. 3 road stages and an uphill tt in hot, rolling Central Oregon where some Western movies were filmed. Riders dropped their bags off at Stage 1 and picked them up by the school gymnasium where they slept on the floors at each stage's end. The promoter provided food and everyone was under one big 400 rider tent; all catagories included.
Paul had no teammates and laid about 20 seconds back until the last 100 mile stage with a couple of big climbs where he went with our young phenom. They stayed clear for 40 miles and he dropped him 10 metres from the finish taking bonuses and time for a nice, prolike win. He was an excellent host with a great sense of humor and everyone felt good about getting schooled-he was a class act.
One of best US races, by the way.
