What is wrong with Tinkov?

Saxo Bank end their long sponsorship, with a very positive and classy press release...... and Tinkov then feels the need to contact Cycling News on his own volition, to kick Saxo Bank on the way out.

Is this guy perpetually drunk or just lacking culture?

I wonder what other sponsors would line up, to work with a person like that?

Also, he wants to have a word in teams' unions.
Who would like to be addressed like Saxo has been if Olga sulks?

i like how all of you jump on tinkov, you dont even question WHAT IF he is right and saxo wanted to continue but on a cheap deal? when it didnt work out saxo released the statement which portraits them in quite favorable light - they could also say they were not willing to pay more for secondary sponsorship but they didnt...

like if you ask a girl out and when she says no you say you didnt want her anyway

devils advocate out

Both parts are probably right. Saxo Bank can have economical/commercial reasons for breaking, aswell as disagreements with Tinkov. It's the fact that Tinkov just cannot shut his mouth once in a while, that people are bashing him for. Who cares who were right, anyway? Atleast Saxo Bank tried to respect the other part, Tinkov didn't.

Truth is not the issue - decorum is.

As a team owner, who one must suppose is looking for sponsors, it is frankly *** to bash a sponsor publicly like that.

Which is why I am asking what is wrong with the guy :)

I guess they should' have asked Olga to release a communiqué on their behalf.

It's starting to look like he's losing interest in his toy (team) so hopefully by this time next year we will be discussing how he's disappeared up his own backside

" they could also say they were not willing to pay more for secondary sponsorship but they didnt..."

They actally did that in a interview under the Vuelta but Feltin hoped and pushed in hope for some money he even said that they had made a deal and only missed a signature, Lars Sejer said that it was not the situation right after in the same interview.

About the money part Tinkov allways say that danes poor, cheep and lazy, that is just his way to say, hey I´m the Siberian mafia, my company started with a gun and pointing that to the supermarked owner and told him to disapear and transfer the owner papers to him and he will be alloved to live.

The right word for poor is Tinkov, all his business is on the negative way and he is only rich in rubles (rest of the world call them monopoly money/ big numbers no value)

After looking at Saxo´s finances (they are public) I can only say they have a very fine numbers and money if they wanted to do that, they even say that they will be back later if the right situation shows up but right now they take a break.

The problem is without doubt Tinkov, he is not what you call a partner with respect, that´s why he also had to call cyclingnews just not to loose his face public and that is exactly what he did with his reaction.

2016 is the last year for Team Tinkoff, it´s only fun to have a toy as long other pay the bill and nobody will do that now that everybody knws who Tinkov is and what he stands for.

Murky account managing at Tinkoff, indeed.

but you can't buy class!

you either have it or you don't - he doesn't

Don't worry, 2016 will be the last year with Tinkov in cycling. No way he will continue in 2017. He is not that rich (especially not in comparison with other sponsors) and his fortune is shrinking.

I hope he go all-in the craziness next year. Make some radical signings and become even noisier. He is his own worst enemy.

He'll destroy the team with his leadership, and then he'll sell it.

Dreamscenario would be that Riis buys the team back this year of course, but a least next year, and then make Contador ride for another year. ;)

Olga doesn't care about anything beyond 2016. His star rider will retire. He has no need to be politically savvy at this stage of the game. As he stated, this is all just a hobby for him, not a career.

Yeah, I don't think he will be in the sport past 2016. In terms of a business decision maybe he did the right thing in regards to Saxo bank (you would have to know more details ) but if you are serious about staying in the sport (and doing business in general) you don't burn your bridges in that way via childish communiques.
