Tinkov is sometimes absolutely crazy, but also has some good points about the future of cycling. Unfortunately UCI didn't pick up some of his ideas about sponsoring/owning teams for example.
This. Plus another valid point that he made is that riders and DSs just don't care... And that's symptomatic for the bunch - other than taking a stance about extreme weather protocols - they just don't seem to care that much about revenue models, job security and the like. Or at least they aren't vocal about it.

I agree with what you're saying. I could be wrong, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say cyclists are the only pro athletes without a proper union.

Despite of all the eccentricity and exotic opinions about Tinkov -coming from him and from his detractors- I think cycling has lost a lot with his departure - sponsorship wise & most importantly: as someone willing to challenge the obsolete UCI & ASO ways to manage the sport - to me he was the last man standing for change and restructure with solid grounds and the money backing to make it happen- sadly the other parties in the sport preferred to stick to the old ways.....

good luck Mr Tinkov- it was fun to have you sponsoring Cycling.

Don't think it's already worth a new topic, so I'll drop it here:

Steven de Jongh, DS at Tinkoff will start a new team for next year. Is is possible that he'll step in when Tinkoff is leaving the sport? The team should be international orientated and not only focusing on Dutch riders, like Roompot is doing for example.

Dutch article/interview.

Couldn't he easily team up with Breukink and Boogerd? Needs to bring a big sponsor with him of course.

There was a Dutch company interested in sponsoring Europcar, though. So who knows.

I think that is not a possibility. Breukink and Boogerd (Roompot Team) are building a team of just Dutch younger riders, let's the Dutch version of Topsport Vlaanderen. De Jongh is not only focusing on young talent nor Dutch riders. He specifically said that he wants to develop an international orientated team.
