There are strong links between cycling and the Papalcy.

What view will the new Pope take?

(PS If anyone thinks this subject has no relevance on the Clinic, it's has as least as much relevance as the thread on who'd you'd like to see caught - which in my view boarders on libelous by its very nature. Also, incitement to hatred contained there in also .....)

If you're talking about Omerta and covering up bad and dirty acts, then yes, cycling and Catholicism and the Papacy have a lot in common. A lot indeed.

Marginal gains + doping + unsackable leader = elite perfectionism

Mass blind following + nationalsim + totalitarian control = money

Cover ups + cruelty + bad PR = farce

Promise of hope + inspiration = mass participation

(therefore)

elite perfectionism + money + farce + mass participation = catholic church divided by cycling

= connection made

Can't argue with that. Nice connection.

Regarding the articles, unless Nibali gets banned before a GT I doubt the pontiff will say anything. Pantani was a special case. Cycling is a lot clearer now and the public have a better grasp on what is going on. Lots more info available these days. The pontiff never pipped in pre 2010 Giro when Pellizotti was rider around with Nibali followed by Ferrair on a scooter. Nobody said anything to stand up for Franco when the UCI stood him down. He's arguably have won the Giro to. Just like Pantani.

The question should be "What stance will the new pope take on groping"?

As for the OP: None.. he is sooo old ( for one more time) that I'm sure that cycling is not something that he remembers what it is and how is done.

Rather than take the p.ss, it might be more opportune to acknowledge the papacy's previous strongly expressed views on doping.

For example:-

http://www.catholicherald.co.uk/new...s-rotten-cycling-world-says-vatican-official/

I've seen equally strong comments in La Gazetta.

I wonder how long before they will be endorsing the "new clean era" that said,

I agree with a lot written in the article, with the exception "team owners to strive for victory through ethical and legal practices". Cop out...too easy to defraud.

Or the other 428 threads you started this week - but lets play, I mean pray until it gets closed.

To become new Pope takes dedication and lazer like focus - I heard he even missed his kids birthdays preparing for the role.

And I am not saying there is wiff of a drugs scandal in the Vatican, but they refer to Cardinals as MicroPopeing.
