"As a rule of thumb, British testers used to take a urine and breath sample of each jockey at least once a year but, among jockeys at least, there is a feeling that this has been upped this year. A minimum of one racecourse a week is selected by the testers and at it every jockey is breath tested – the threshold for alcohol is half what it is for driving – and a dozen will provide a urine sample from a random draw."

Passed half a dozen tests in 2012

British Horseracing Authority (BHA) spokesman Robin Mounsey said: "Frankie Dettori has been tested half a dozen times for prohibited substances on British racecourses in 2012."

In 2011, the BHA conducted a total of 873 racecourse tests and 52 tests elsewhere.

Of these, one of the 474 licensed riders - Jack Mitchell - tested positive for cocaine and was given a six-month ban while there were two failed alcohol tests.

Its not 500+ tests, but is clearly a 'never tested positive' spin.
