I just read that piece. One might almost call it autobiographical and I think it does shed a lot of light on JV's general outlook and attitude. To me it makes it clear that he has a deeper understanding and empathy for dopers than most of us will ever have. Anti-doping campaigners don't have to be hellfire and brimstone Kimmage types.

@Granville57 - thanks for that extract. Right under my nose all the time! I should have gone back to the Kimmage piece rather than conducting fruitless searches here, there and everywhere.:rolleyes:

To those who don't think JV (or Garmin) have actually done anything constructive re: anti-doping, consider this. By being so explicitly tied to an anti-doping agenda they have effectively put a loaded gun to their head and all it would take is one positive to pull the trigger. That's a big commitment in my book and JV is on record (found the Tweet the other day, don't have time to dig it out right now) as saying that as team boss, he is responsible for what his riders do, even if he has no knowledge of it. That's a brave position to put yourself in and places a strong obligation on his riders to stick to team policy and not pull the whole thing down by doping. And *that*, ladies and gentlemen, is what changing the culture of pro-cycling actually looks like. Subtle, not flashy.
