Where do I start

Can you give me some advice on this. I and my son are not a cyclist but my son and I have for many years have watched all the cycling you can see on TV
For the last two times the TDF have been to GB we have been to watch it. About four years ago I went with a friend of mine to go and see Alpe H'Huez
We flew into Grenoble airport hired a car and drove to Bourg d'Oisans this is at the foot of Alpe H'Huez and stayed in a hotel not far away from Bourg d'Oisans.

My son and I would like to do is to see more mountains tops that the cyclist go over. We would like to go over Mont Vetoux and Alpe H'Huez but I am think of the distance I will have to drive.
I was thinking I could go to one airport pick up a car and take it back to a different airport so I see as many mountain tops as I can in five days .
What I don;t know is what airports I could go to and what mountain tops aI drive over .

Has any of you done this and what did you do? Or can you advise me the best way to do this.

You could follow "Route des grandes alpes" from Lac Léman (fly to Geneve airport) to Nice. It takes you over a lot of great passes. Alpe d'Huez is a little detour on the route.

The classic Mont Ventoux ascent starts in Bedoin. Bedoin is probably a 300-400 km detour...
