My thought was that it didn't matter if he couldn't win solo, cause as long as if he kept arriving at the finish with one or two riders then he would ultimately win at least once. Either because he was the strongest in the sprint, or because the others would mistime their sprints or have mechanicals during it.
Tbh I had not considered the possibility he could just tackle his rivals

Froome running up the Ventoux was more entertaining than anything Pogacar's done since like 2024 started.

So now the biggest and most important challenge is Paris-Roubaix. Sure, Vuelta is a GT but he's already proven to be the best in stage races while flat cobbles in a completely different racing.

I don't think it's as important as other think, but if out of the "big 9-10" he were to eventually end up missing just Vuelta it would be pretty funny:
you could argue that it would've been "the easiest" for him to win.

I think nobody ever trying the cycling tactics against him was the biggest reason to think he would succeed eventually.
Which tactics could Pidcock and MvdP do today? That was by far their best chance to win, MvdP contributed because there was no Philipsen in the chase group and it was also by far Pidcock's best chance to win. They both did as little as possible for the group to stay away, they only had 7 or 8s at the bottom of the Poggio

If you don't see that Van der Poel should have never contributed then what are we doing.

Okay, I'm listening what his best chance for a win was other than do the minimum riding and hope he doesn't get dropped on the Poggio. He'd still be the favourite to win the sprint if it came down to this
