Who do you think Versus wants viewers to focus on for the Tour de France?

The war of words between Armstrong and Contador saturated the cycling media after the Tour de France, and primarily saw Armstrong countering sniper attacks by the Spaniard

What has Contador said about Lance since this in July?

"Well, my relationship with Lance is zero. My relationship with him is zero. I think that independently of what his character is, he is still a great champion. He has won seven Tours and played a big part in this one, too. But it's different to speak at a personal level. I have never really admired him that much, or will ever, but of course as a cyclist, he is a great champion."

In 2009 it's Zipp by a landslide in Kona

Wheel Count (includes aero wheels only)
Zipp – 1936
Hed – 229
Mavic – 165
Xentis – 134
Bontrager – 100
Reynolds – 63
Shimano – 48
Corima – 37
Campagnolo – 35
Easton – 34
Lightweight – 29
SRAM – 23
Planet X – 22
Rolf – 17
Nimble – 17
Edge – 13
Ceepo – 11
Fulcrum – 6
Other – 212 (Includes unidentifiable wheels plus wheel count of less than five)

I was not saying that HED had more wheels at Kona. I was saying that for some reason LA appeals to a majority of triathletes. As such it is important for a company like HED to make sure that their equipment is on the bike of the person who appeals to their marketing effort.

Here is the link to information posted by the other individual in case you want to look at the data.

Now that is a load of rubbish. I read Parkins book and thought it quite interesting but something I didnt understand was the personal attack on Paul Kimmage. There were quite a few English speaking pros in the peloton at the same time but very few were mentioned, Kimmage had absolutely no relevance to Parkins story but made it into the book, just plain strange. I would fear he is a devotee and with what he witnessed in the peloton, you would think he would know better.

Parkin is trying to build a career in the US cycling community after spending a decade in the Moto business. One of the keys to this is you toss the Armstrong salad.

At the start of this thread, LA had given us all a revised history lesson of what happened the last six months of 2009. He accused Contador of lying repeatedly and attacking him, and he accused the Spanish press, especially Marca, of knowingly printing lies. (This was all before he accused Perre Bordry of trying to kill pro cycling through LA).

Anyway, the Marca writer who wrote a lot of the Contador coverage has finally responded to LA's Telegraaf accusations, in the publication's blog area. Google does not translate it well. But he claims near the end that he has confirmation from a company and other people who were around at the time that the wheel story is true.

Not long ago he declared that he had the same wheels we to dispute the time trials. And that's not true. It is very easy to prove, simply call Trek. I understand that the Spanish press is behind her hero, but a journalist should write the truth ",

Marca writes
which incidentally is what we did because the story of the wheels is strictly true, as so I have been confirmed, apart from Albert himself, other people around, and among them who commissioned the firm of Lightwight

AC's rear disk was a custom painted Lightweight disk. Last I checked Trek did not make those.

Armstrong's ability to lie is impressive.

At the Spanish TT championships Contador used a standard Bontriger disk.

At the Tour he used a custom Lightweight.

You can tell the difference as unlike most disk wheels the lightweights are close to flat.

Asking the question "Who do you trust? LA & JB versus AC & Spanish media AKA Wheel Gate " is like asking who do you trust between Osama ben laden and Mother Teresa?

Not disputing the facts you have presented. Simple and easy to verify. The question is did LA have access to the light weight disk that AC is riding and withheld it from AC and AC had to pay for them. Do we have pictures like Race radio's of what Lance road that day? I thought the original debate is the access to the new Hed 3D with ceramic bearings.

In response to Moose who posted while I was typing. Light weight wheels are flat and do not have a sail effect that lens shaped wheels have in the cross winds. That is why most disk are not perfectly flat anymore. So maybe on the course for the day a light weight wheel may have been a disadvantage.

However I would say that most of this is Pyscological, which at the levels that AC races at is probably more important then the equipment.

Complex problem, easy to spin in any direction. Hard to say who is lying and in what context they are. Overall I would say that LA had access to more toys and he did not share. But that is my opinion.

AC never said he wanted Lance's wheels, Armstrong said this.

Contador wanted specific wheels, the Lightweights. The team would not get them for him so he had to buy them himself. Lightweight does not give out free wheels. Teams often buy them and rebadge them for their top riders. Armstrong himself used them in his early Tours as did Ulrich.

I'm a bit lost. So, Contador wanted the Bontragers but had to settle for the Lightweights? Do I have this backwards?

AC: Johann, I've heard Lance is getting some custom wheels-can I have access to those as well?
JB: No you can't-Bontrager has developed them exclusively for Lance to match his custom-painted bike frames....
AC: WTF? How about HED? can they get me a pair for the Tour - can I get at least the front wheel?
JB: sorry kid-they have shut down production just to make lance's - I think you might as well use the spare one we gave you for the Dauphine....
AC: ok- never mind Johann- I'll figure something out....
AC dialing Frank: Frank-just listen up-go get me the latest rear wheel from lightweight & bring the mechanic along with the TT bike -don't forget to match the colors & stickers with the Bontrager's before those *** sue us for not endorsing their crap...

Aha, the mystery of the Alberto's Wheelset is starting to become clear.

Alberto wanted to ride Custom-Painted LightWeights OMG.
(Ulrich and others paid for those out of their own pockets and would wait months for delivery back in the day. Bjarne used em too.)

So THOSE are the wheels Alberto was whining about...custom painted LightWeights

OK - Who should have paid for his wheels?

1) TREK?....no way, they were giving him Bontrager wheels for free. Why should Trek pay for Alberto's Custom Painted LightWeights?

2) Maybe Lance should have paid for Alberto's wheelsout of his own pocket? ya right.

3) Astana? Astana was not even paying rider salaries lol.

4) Alberto?

Telekom paid for Jan's Lightweights and USPS paid for Lance's.

It appears Mr Armstrong also used a custom badged Lightweight for the Tour.

Those are Lightweights. You can tell as you can see the "Spoke" lines on them. Lightweight uses their carbon fiber spoke technology sandwiched with foam for their disc. They are also much flatter then other disc wheels. Those wheels are not only flat but the Bonti's have a bludge toward the rim that those wheels do not have.

Yep, I can see the carbon spoke lines in the picture that you referenced. The waves are pretty easy to see. It is clear that LA had access to the Lightweight wheels.
