Who is El Patron?

I would rather have the top 10 in the PCS standings communicate and agree on all kinds of things that concerns the riders (safety etc) than a patron.

If the peloton need one patron, it should be someone that is in the peloton for 10 years and that everybody respects, is a gentleman and can communicate well in the media so the voice of the peloton is heard.

While the media have portrayed Remco as a spoiled, arrogant brat, he is maybe a bit too bossy to be a gentleman but he is a social and well-spoken guy. Vingegaard is maybe a bit more thoughtful and in the background, but he has authority and as shown, isn’t afraid of taking responsibility and undertaking action. Pogacar is a playful type but he is respected and popular in the peloton. Mvdp and Wva impress every rider in the peloton and have a lot of authority. Those 5 together could, with some other riders, really push their will through.
The interesting thing in this Vuelta is that you have Vingegaard, Mas (who is an important voice in Spain) and Evenepoel who agreed on the neutralization (its already something that they talked about it) and next were able to pressure the organization.
What we see mostly is riders hardly voicing their opinion, and if they do they aren’t doing it constructive / unisono, and even if they would do that, they would almost never initiate action together. Here it happened and I feel evenepoel’s loud mouth was the catalyst to make it happen.

You should look up the average speed in some flat Giro stages in the 90s-early 00s.
In the mountain stages he would be at the front of the peloton for the first 50kms and no one even thought about attacking. 200 dwarfs all scared shitless right behind him. It was him and not the race director who allowed the race to start.

I think Roglic is well respected within the peloton more so than Remco and also older. He could take on such a role but unfortunately he isn't very outspoken.

So that leaves it up to Remco, Poga and Vingo.

i never said they didn't respect his results, but veteran riders are not going to bow down to him and follow his lead at this point in his career.

He can only infer about a mix of factors, but the question of who is Le Patron is mute because everyone is a bit like Soler these days: rider's behavior, results, personality could allegedly point to some sample of respectable foes (Roglic, Pogacar, WVA, MDVP) but the fact is that individualism is a social trend and hiearchies are there to be questioned. Bossiness and bad-boyism is fading. Additionaly, DS have more to say on how one team rides than riders.

Pog is laughy and smiley, but in a race where both Pog and Remco are at the start, surely Pog is the upper dog.

Yes, it does take more than talent to be a leader, and Remco has not yet shown leadership qualities.

I feel like this is one of the older riders and they don't have to be currently successful to be it.

Just looking at Vuelta, I'd be looking more at guys like Gesink, Fraile, Erviti than a Roglic, Remco sort of rider
