losing a minute to wiggins while arguably not on top shape over a 50k flat itt isn't that bad imo. he seems to have improved tbh

He was in better shape than Wiggo ;) He didn't train at all, and started just week before Vuelta .

Thanks for this. Andy shades the head to head then. The haters are not going to like that. But I'm sure it will be turned around somehow.

ya right because wiggins is a much better climber then nibali and outclimbs nibali even when he isn't in top shape and nibali is. just like in the only proper mountain stage of the 2009 when wiggins put nearly a minute into a 24 year old nibali. . . . oh wait ;)

nibali himself said that he overestimated the effect the giro would have on him so he didn't train enough to reach top shape for the vuelta as he was afraid to tire himself out with the training and wiggins was in pretty good shape for the vuelta, VdB2 top 10 the vuelta even tho he a much serious crash then wiggins in the tour and later in the race so had less time to recover then wiggins.

but this is out of topic, i still think that nibali is a better time trialist then schleck mostly when the itt is earlier in the race or doesn't has 2 hard days of mountains before like it did in the 2009 tour where andy schlecks extraordinary recovery helped a lot compared to nibali's recovery which still lacks.

p.s.s don't forget that nibali had a flat tire on the 2010 vuelta itt which costed him some time(prolly around 20 or so secs)

Nibali like Anton and Rodriguez was crushed by the Giro. Anton could barely get on the bike 3 months after that race and all he did was go for a stage. Nibali on good shape does not equal losing 2 minutes to Cobo on mtf's.

the giro did destroy scarponi and rodriguez, but not nibali and anton. a stomach virus in august ruined anton's preparation for the vuelta and nibali ruined his own preparation by overestimating the damage the giro had done to him, he was fine for the italian classics once he put a few more training k's in his legs just a couple weeks after the vuelta and was arguably the strongest on the GdL but far from the smartest unfortunately

Nibali, but the difference is negligible, only gets it due to performing better outside of July (or May).

I agree with Timmy, it's a bit like picking the better climber out of Jean-Christophe Peraud and Hubert Dupont.

In the head to head Schleck has done better. You could argue in the '07 Giro and the '08 Tour Nibali rode them as a domestique rather than GC, but that still leaves open the question as to '09. If you want to base it on a South American result in January than Nibali, since other than the Luxembourg Nationals it is highly unlikely Schleck has been 2nd ever as a pro in a .1 or HC event. It was impressive to see whoever(s) was saying Nibali early and short and Schleck later in the race and have the GT results beater that out. It's not every day that what people say on an internet board and reality (at least based on statistics) coincide.
