hey jakob how far do you really think rafael reis can go?

a friend of mine from college raced with him when he was younger and told me that it was hilarious how easily he dominated every type of race in portugal.

I think he can go very far, he defiantly has the potential. :)

I used to follow Portuguese U/23 and junior cycling a lot, but I have to admit to you my track-record with the crystal ball isn't all that great! I remember reading Vasco Pereira reesilient fighting off everybody and taking the win on top of Alto de Montejunto in 2007 during the Volta a Portugal de Juniores. I mean he won with what? 1min 30sec down to riders like Pablo Lechuga and Amaro Antunes. I thought I saw a future Tour de France winner that day ha-ha.

I also used to refer to Bruno Castanheira as the Portuguese Jan Ullrich. I was a huge fan!

Back to Rafael Reis. I have a really good gut feeling with him. I hope I won't jinx up another Portuguese talent.

Potential wise I give a slight edge to A. Lutsenko. Obviously Arman Kamyshev is really talented as well!

I guess it comes down to personal taste in the end. For me A. Lutsenk has a more interesting rider-repertoire. I see a wider path for him down the line.

Arman Kamyshev reminds me a little bit of a young Assan Bazayev. I wish him success as well. :)
What do you think about Nikita Umerbekov?

For GB how about Jermane Burton? He is still 16 but has already won National U 16 Crit. And has won the famous Bec hill climb twice against seniors.
His father is an ex pro road and track.

Hmm, some of these chaps are 22-23 years old, while many are first-year u23 riders. Is that a good sign for the former, because that would mean they're still delivering and lived up to the hype so far, or a bad sign, because their countries haven't produced new, exciting, younger talent? :p

Mads Würtz Schmidt is doing well in the junior ranks

Yeah! I'm gonna say him as well... as for the slightly older Rasmus Quuade might be worth mentioning. Or Valgren, the recent winner of the U23 L-B-L...

Caleb Ewan will be huge in the sprinting sense.

I would have said Durbridge as well if he is not WT but he is still so young. Scott Law is good too.

Jay McCarthy and Morton will also be good.

It would be nice to see if Alex Edmonson could do something on the road.

Rohan Dennis is not on a PC/ WT team either so he will do great too.

Mads Würtz Schmidt is definitely good, as are Quaade and Valgren. But let's not forget Sebastian Lander. Asbjørn Kragh Andersen is doing good as well.

I need to put in a good job as well, magnificent!

Also thougt about Markus Fåglum but Philip Lindau from the CykelCity outfit might also become something. He won the nationals last year and can hopefully improve since he's born 1991. He won a three day competition in Sweden last weekend.

Morton and Dennis will have pro contracts next year, McCarthy too most likely.

Linfield is the name you're after.

It's certainly better, and more informed, than that recent Cyclingnews article about the biggest talents in cycling.

As for my country, I think Danny van Poppel could be a good bet. A climbing sprinter, or a sprinting climber, whichever you prefer. And he can TT. But Daan Olivier isn't too shabby either, indeed.

You mean the three day competition where no major teams participated and cykelcity won everything and took places 1-6. No disrespect but that competition is a joke. He's very strong though

Good pick on South African Louis Meintjes (pronounced main...keys) he's currently storming up the road scene in California with a couple of other expats. Christian Kriek and Jos Le Roux. At 20 he appears to be the real deal.

Oftentimes the intro's to the threads for the big events are much more insightful and detailed than many of the one's I find on the major cycling websites and even in some of the mags. There are some talented and knowledgeable folk that frequent this forum.:)

Another van Poppel?! I've read about Boy. Are there anymore of them coming up throught the ranks?

Yeah, I know that it was really meh with only one real team. But he was at least the strongest CC-cyslist now ;).

No, there are two. Boy and his younger brother Danny (1993), both sons of Jean-Paul.

Hmm, I would say Sean de Bie. Has been very consistent as of late and has had a nice number of wins like in the Tryptique Ardennes.

For the US, Craddock has certainly shown the most promise thus far from U23s. Going a fair bit younger, Danny Parks and Philip O'Donnell are both extremely talented (both 1996).
