Goss did win a sprint against Cav and Greipel at T-A. He then got injured at M-SR and rode RVV- so he has not had a chance to pick up stage wins after that. It also struck at a very bad time- he looked good for a chance to win M-SR and when Ciolek was there- I feel Goss could have too.

Hushovd and Pozzato looked hopeful in Haut Var and Laigueglia respectively, and not much followed, they almost have to podium in Roubaix, the pressure is on.

Tiernan-Locke also wasn´t so special up to now, his deciding weeks are to come now, in April.

Kittel also had a weaker spring, but his year will be good if he wins a Tour stage, so he can remain calm.

The thing with the hypes is a real problem. People forget not everyone is a Peter Sagan, doing his first WT race not even aged 20 (he got 20 after TDU 2010), and winning from the beginning. Ospina, Edmondson, Dombrowski, and many others, all need time, but it seems some parts of public aren´t patient enough. In Germany, there is 18 or 19 yr old Herklotz, and some already say he´s the new Ullrich. This hypes and pressures can be motivating, but also destroying.
The thing is, nowadays, if someone is promising due to expected talent, good early results, or whatever, he gets celebrated and hyped, and if this one goes through difficult times then, he gets booed.

Depends who that rider was hyped by. Us, media, themselves?

Fuglsang (definately not hyped by us, but by himself and his team) and Tiernan-Locke and as a team Saxo.

But its stille early days.

I think we can all safely assume who got my vote  But i think so far these are good hand picked candidates so far.

hehe, you're great HiCadence, you know that?:) two second places on monuments and only 7 wins until April 1st would be a disaster for every rider, not just sagan.

but back to the topic, i've chosen tom boonen. i deeply regret what happened to him last sunday, but he had a miserable season so far.

The thing with Boonen is that he has been injured for a while and I don't really remember anyone saying he would be dominant in the cobbled classic because of this. Obviously there was some expectation because of last season but I am not sure that anyone really thought he would do much given how is recovery and race fitness turned out.
