He wants to win the Giro eventually anyway, and he thinks there is a good chance he won't beat Vingegaard at the Tour, so he might as well go for the Giro now.

Look up the difference between necessary and sufficient conditions. Note that a consideration in support of a decision doesn't have to be either.I don't understand this question. Are you suggesting that there can always be only one reason behind a decision? Or what? Sorry for not wanting to attend your philosophy class on a Friday evening.
The bigger question is, why isn't Vingegaard riding the Giro?
Because he will ride the Tour and Vuelta. He's got a lot of time to win the Giro, now he should go all in to the Tour, in his peak years. The bigger question is, why isn't Vingegaard riding the Giro?
Agreed. It's the pragmatic option. If he was favourite for Le Tour would he be riding Il Giro? Of course not.He wants to win the Giro eventually anyway, and he thinks there is a good chance he won't beat Vingegaard at the Tour, so he might as well go for the Giro now.
He will ride the Giro, even if Vinge crashes in April and get long-term injured.Agreed. It's the pragmatic option. If he was favourite for Le Tour would he be riding Il Giro? Of course not.
Haven't read all replies, so i don't know if anyone has said he is literally "scared" but obviously Vingegaard plays a role here. Doing the Giro first is a triple safety blanket. First of all, baring accidents he will win the Giro with a 99% certainty so going to the Tour he likely already has the Giro in the bag. That's one. Secondly, it is the perfect excuse in case he falls short (again) in the Tour, it's a perfectly valid explanation that you can't be at your very best at the Tour after having done the Giro. Winning the Giro, as well as doing the Tour àfter the Giro, considerably lowers the pressure and expectations for the Tour (already having a GT in the bag + impossible to start the Tour with the same freshness as your rivals). And thirdly, in case he does manage to win the Tour after winning the Giro, it makes his win all the more epic. So it's a win-win either way.To me the whole "scared of Vingegaard" doesn't fly at all with the fact that he's racing the Tour after the Giro instead of simply going Giro/Vuelta, and by the fact that he was pushing Vingegaard hard before he had a really weak patch around the end of the second week.
This doesn't hold up if he loses both races. So it is far riskier than one might think. He has anything but won the giro.Haven't read all replies, so i don't know if anyone has said he is literally "scared" but obviously Vingegaard plays a role here. Doing the Giro-Vuelta would be a little too obvious, and also completely unnecessary considering nobody will expect him to simply win the Tour after already doing the Giro. But again, Vingegaard clearly plays a role here, if not he would try and do the Giro in a few years, after another few TDF wins. I'm quite convinced him needing to beat Vingegaard at the Tour, makes going to the Giro a lot easier considering my previous arguments. He wants to win the Giro anyway, but now with firm (superior) opposition at the TDF, he might as well do it now.
Bro. You need to change your username to Vingegaard. It's time already!Because he will ride the Tour and Vuelta. He's got a lot of time to win the Giro, now he should go all in to the Tour, in his peak years.
If Vingegaard wins more 2 Tours, and equalize froome, i will do that.Bro. You need to change your username to Vingegaard. It's time already!
If he can't win the Giro against... Uijtdebroeks, Thomas and O'Connor, then he has no business going to the Tour. He wouldn't even be on the podium. This doesn't hold up if he loses both races. So it is far riskier than one might think. He has anything but won the giro.
