Why Team Sky will dominate cycling till 2018

I think their TDF team was still very strong last year- Lopez and Kyrienka rode like beasts up to the TDF, EBH rode superbly the year before as a domestique, Kennaugh and Geraint both rode strongly (much better riders than Puccio) and Porte i think last year was showing more form than both Uran and Henao before Uran's great giro (arguable because of Henao's Ardennes though).

Yes I agree Team SKY will continue to dominate the races that
matter because of their willingness to adopt and adapt new, or
new to the pro peloton, scientific strategies.

For example, instead of just having their DS shout into the race
radio or employ the klaxon of the team car, SKY has successfully
experimented with more productive auditory stimuli such as
music and/or sound frequencies via the race-radio ear-piece
to induce physiological responses that enable improved
athletic performance.

This is my favourite post ever.

Back in the early 70's possibly the most
popular and widely read tome regarding
cycling/training/racing was the 'Blue Bible'
(the C.O.N.I. Manual) from Italy which was
available (thankfully) in English.

Now it seems Sig. Cassani, the new head
coach of the Squadra, is looking to the UK
and Australia for cycling knowledge, ideas
and protocols for developing young riders.

Encouraging youngsters to ride the track
and BMX is apparently one of the things
he will be doing, according to the CN report.

So maybe Team SKY won't dominate 'til 2018,
or at least much after 2018 :(.

Two terrible things to learn from that: BMX is here to stay (I can't believe we lost the kilo from the Olympics to make room for that joke of an event) and we can expect a bunch of Italians racing in the same dull style as most of the Britons and Australians on the road in the near future. Great news.

At the moment, they'll be more than happy to establish in the 2015. something called like competitiveness on the road and stretch it through the 2016., rather than to dominate till the 2018..
The Road is wider than the GTs.

I think Cassani was talking about how coping the british and the australian model would be a good way to produce more young riders that are successful in one day races, he talked about the lack of good ITT riders and top classics riders in Italy.

But you have riders like Meyer and even Durbridge who attack. Also Australia's two most noted wheelsuckers- Evans and Gerrans- never rode on the track.

But for the most part, it's sprinters, violent sprinters, equally violent leadout men, and time trial specialists. And a track program is only going to yield sprinters and time trial specialists.

Riders like Matty Lloyd or Adam Hansen are exceptions.

There's nothing wrong with the Junior road program but there's only so long you can spend in Europe as a 17 year old Australian. Most inevitably will ride track to some degree but whether or not it's to the detriment of road potential is unknown.

As we all know the u23 program is world-leading and it's not limited to just the top track riders. Even the track riders manage as complete a road season as any.

That's not to say that the system isn't tilted towards the track because it is, but I strongly doubt that there are climbers that have been missed, or climbers irreparably made into rouleurs because of it. If anything I think if the talent identification system was lacking it would be more a cultural thing (and of course geographic).

Think Sky need to go after someone like Vanmarke for the cobbles, he too me is the next rider who will dominate as Calcellara and Boonen start declining. Sky just care about GC still.

So wait Stannard who won Omloop this year, G who had podium at E3 and Top 10s at RVV and Roubaix and Wiggins are not Sky riders now?

Personally it's the Classics for me, was great to see Stannard win Omloop het Nieuwsblad, I have real hopes for Wiggins in Paris-Roubaix, but other than that Sky has been pretty absent. Can someone give me more hope for Sky wins in the 2015 Spring?

Swift and Thomas got top 3's in MSR and E3 too.

Not entirely, they seem to be gradually learning how to race the classics, instead of simply trying to ride everyone off 2012 TDF style. The improvement seems to have started when they kicked Failsfraud out of the team car for the one day races.
