Will Joaquim "Purito" Rodriguez retain the MR to the end?

I must confess- I like him a lot- He's aggressive & entertaining to watch-apart from that-a very classy rider-- BUT his GT record reveals that he always suffers a mayor decline during lengthy climbs and/or falters on key stages. Without a mention, his limited skills against the clock, has taking away higher standings in all GT's he's participated in...
Will be the case for Joaquim in this year's Giro-or perhaps he's learned the lessons from the past and is ready to claim his first GC?

please opine

Awesome at messing up yeah.

that's why i like him. he isn't a valverde, or a contador or A CANC/BOONEN/sagan that were born with the best genetics of the market... he is a former gregari that worked his *** off and is now the most explosive rider when the gradient goes above 8%. and that's his weapon... it's beautiful to see him putting the hammer down.

sometimes he fails.. but that weapon is always there for the next day.

i justc can't describe his awesomeness properly.. i feel the same about samu.

please god, let him.

The fact that he didn't lose time in cervinia, a stage which didn't suit him at all, and that he smoked everyone hard yesterday, has gotten my hopes up again regarding the third week. His morale will be higher than ever.

vamos Purito

+100000

exactly the same reason why I like him too.

He was always talented, but stayed too long with Valverde. He isn't the first guy who got his career sacrificed by Movistar. ;)

valverde is a totally different breed. i believe that it is the same thing as comparing contador to evans.

imagine that both (conti and cadel) were on the same team since 2006. obviously cadel would have to work for contador... now imagine that cadel never came with stupid excuses, was never a d*ck, wasn't "strange", but always dreamed to do what he did since 2009, was always honest about it and worked as hard as he could. that's purito.

the fact that purito is doing this in the last few seasons has nothing to do with valverde. valverde was a monster pre-puerto and still was before his ban.
purito just kept building himself in the shadows and as soon as the opportunity came... :

he has been doing this since then..

he deserves every single win he got.

He came second in 2011 and 2010. ;) You conveniently forgot about that or weren't that opportunities?

how do you mean? that was the first video that i found on youtube and it is to show how good he has been.. and he only gets better!

ofcourse gilbert and evens were stronger during those 2 years, but my point is that purito is getting stronger and he beats them now, like valverde did most of the time with some relative ease, but without valverde's talent.

because of that, he has all my respect and i really enjoy him. that's the funny thing about this giro.. i enjoy all of them (maybe rodriguez more than others) with the exception of rujano. then again, he isn't a contender.

You said "as soon as the opportunity arrived", but showed a vid from his third try. You'd be better off showing a vid of Montelupone or something.

You mean you believe in the riders you like.

It remains to be seen what will happen when there won't be a procession behind Szmyd until 3km to go.

But he has looked very good so far and I suspect that it won't be easy to get rid of him in the remaining stages.

Notice how these riders actually come from different teams though?

So??? Must I be a fan of riders from different teams? Don't tell me you go around supporting every team when you watch soccer.

First of all, I watch football not soccer. And you're right, I don't support every single team out there, but most of the teams, even ones I hate as teams, have players that I support and find awesome regardless

I notice how they are very much the best sprinter, GC rider, cobbles riders, uphill finisher etc etc. The only one on the list who is a weird choice is Valverde as he is neither the best nor exciting.

And you are pretty much a 1 team fan yourself.

LOL. What? I've pretty much explained it with football analogy the post before yours.

And ffs, there's at least 2 other teams that I fully support - RusVelo and IteraKatusha, hehe

you must be new to cycling (also, he is the best all rounder but that wasn't my point). remember pre-puerto? remember 2010 (winning sprints, tts, mountain stages, hills..)

what i am trying to say is that they win because they are awesome and they are fighters.

the others are also great riders, but they don't have the necessary guts to become awesome.

football = soccer

Its perfectly normal as a sports fan to support particular teams instead of most of the teams. And I actually do support riders outside of BMC like cancellara, schlecks.
